Elena brings the heat to Street Fighter 6 with her Capoeira gameplay

The returning DLC character, originally seen in our earlier games, is now a young woman in Street Fighter 6. Despite her increased maturity, Elena retains her cheerful demeanor. Her kicks remain just as perilous as before.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m down to the wire in Street Fighter 6, with just one more character left for the Year 1 Character Pass – Elena! Born and raised in the vibrant heart of Kenya, this Capoeira dancer is about to show off her dance moves, which happen to be some of the most devastating kicks I’ve ever seen. She’s all set to claim victory after victory!

Initially, Elena became acquainted with the Street Fighter III: New Generation series. As she’s grown older, her updated character has sparked a broad range of feelings – from exhilaration to apprehension, and even some constructive criticism.

In June 2024, during Summer Game Fest 2024, it was first announced that Elena would join Street Fighter 6. The developers unveiled her as the character for Year 2 in their reveal trailer. Elena’s appearance is brief compared to other DLC characters.

In the community, there was a mix of enthusiasm and discontent. Many found the girl appealing, yet not everyone admired Elena’s fresh appearance, particularly her newly styled face and hair.

Despite the buzz surrounding Fatal Fury characters in Street Fighter 6 and the spectacle of Capcom Cup 11’s elite battles, Elene managed to slip into the shadows of public focus. However, she remained firmly etched in people’s memories.

On April 10, we received another trailer for Elena in SF6. The girl looks different now.

As a gamer, I’m pumped about the sneak peek for SF6! The protagonist, my avatar, dives into an electrifying dance that’s got me hooked. Elena, though seemingly aloof from the main crew, sets an enchanting atmosphere, like she’s weaving some magical vibes or illusions for us all to immerse ourselves in.

The video clearly shows that Elena incorporates Capoeira techniques within Street Fighter 6, and the trailer also reveals the launch date for this downloadable character.

When does Elena join Street Fighter 6?

The release date for SF6 Elena is June 5, 2025.

It’s quite intriguing that Capcom will unveil Elena alongside Street Fighter 6 for the latest Nintendo Switch console. In fact, both the DLC character and the game are set to debut on the very same day as the Switch 2 launch – June 5th.

Specifically designed for this event, the developers introduced a unique edition: Street Fighter 6 – Year 1 & 2 Fighters Pack.

The girl is a Capoeira dancer, and this affects the actual gameplay of Elena in Street Fighter 6.

Previously, Elena was characterized by her ability to get close for attacks and had powerful mid-range jabs that were effective. In combat, she primarily uses her kicks to apply pressure rapidly, often switching between moves quickly to keep opponents guessing.

In simpler terms, Elena possesses a special healing talent that could function as her signature move. However, the townsfolk are quite apprehensive since none of the other Street Fighter 6 characters appear to share this capability.

We haven’t figured out exactly how to play Elena in Street Fighter 6 yet, but it’s likely that Capcom will release an SF6 Elena gameplay trailer and a character guide soon. This could happen around the start of the next competitive season, which is the Capcom Pro Tour 2025, starting at Evo Japan 2025.

How to unlock Elena in Street Fighter 6

She is an SF6 DLC character, so you should purchase Elena to unlock her in Street Fighter 6.

  • SF6 Year 2 Character Pass costs $29.99. It comes with all SF6 Season 2 characters.
  • Elena costs 350 Fighter Coins in the game. A package with 610 FC costs $11.99, and you can buy a Fighting Pass for 250 FC. However, the Year 2 Pass is still a better deal.
  • Street Fighter 6 Years 1-2 Fighters Edition includes all 26 characters. It’s a good choice for new players. The SF6 Fighters Edition is available starting from June 5, 2025.

All SF6 Season 2 characters: Elena and more

Similar to Year 1, Street Fighter 6 has introduced four additional playable characters as part of its Year 2 Pass. Here’s a rundown of the newcomers:

Just like last year with Year 1, Street Fighter 6 has added four new characters to its roster via the Year 2 Pass. Here are the fresh faces:

  • M. Bison: The villain was released on June 26, 2024.
  • Terry Bogard: He is the first-ever guest character in a main Street Fighter game. Terry joined SF6 on Sep. 24, 2024.
  • Mai Shiranui: The girl is the second Fatal Fury character in Street Fighter 6. The release date for Mai is Feb. 5, 2025.
  • Elena: The Capoeira dancer is available in Street Fighter 6 on June 5, 2025.

There are other Capoeira dancers in fighting games. 

  • Eddy Gordo uses the dancing moves to kick his opponents in TEKKEN 8. 
  • Even if Salvatore Ganacci is not specifically about Capoeira, the DJ uses some elements of this dancelike martial art in Fatal Fury COTW, like the hand stance.

Following Elena, we’re anticipating the arrival of the SF6 Year 3 DLC characters. It’s likely they will announce these new additions somewhat later, possibly during Evo Las Vegas 2025, which takes place from August 1 to August 3.
