Elaine Hendrix and Alan Bernstein wowed audiences on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ with their incredible ‘Defying Gravity’ performance, and social media is buzzing with praise.
A video circulating on X, formerly known as Twitter, shows a performer dressed as Elphaba from Wicked seemingly flying above the audience. Complete with a broom and witch’s hat, she delivers the famous scream from the movie and Broadway show. Viewers were amazed by the performance, with many describing it as ‘incredible’ and expressing disbelief that she was actually flying.
Hendrix first gained widespread recognition in 1998 for her memorable role as the funny villain, Meredith Blake. Since then, she’s been a regular on TV shows like Joan of Arcadia, 90210, and Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll. Most recently, she’s become popular again playing Alexis Carrington Colby on the CW’s Dynasty.
After the performance, fans flooded social media with enthusiastic reactions. Many argued that the performer deserved a perfect score for her “Wicked” routine, especially after she and her partner received a 9 from each judge. One user dramatically declared they would stop watching if she didn’t get all 10s, while another shared how moved they were, saying the dance brought them to tears. Many other users on X expressed similar sentiments, with one calling the lack of a perfect score “criminal” given how amazing the dance was.
As a huge musical fan, I loved the Wickedthemed night on the current season of Dancing with the Stars! All the remaining contestants performed songs from the Wicked soundtrack, and it was a really fun show. Two performances really stood out: Whitney Leavitt from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives* and her partner Mark Ballas nailed ‘Popular,’ and Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles and Ezra Sosa were equally amazing with ‘For Good.’ Both couples earned the night’s highest score of 39 – seriously impressive!
Despite the magic of the night, not all the performers on Wicked had a great experience. Pentatonix’s Scott Hoying and Rylee Arnold finished in fifth place, receiving a score of 28 for their modern take on ‘The Wizard and I,’ which put them at the bottom of the rankings.
Dancing With the Stars’ Wicked Night Saw the Film’s Cast Getting Involved
Ahead of the November 21st release of Wicked: For Good, the cast and creators of the movie made a special appearance on Dancing with the Stars to show their support. Director John M. Chu served as a guest judge, and viewers got an exclusive first look at a clip from the upcoming film. The episode also featured video messages from stars Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey, and Michelle Yeoh.
The upcoming sequel to 2024’s Wicked picks up years later, showing Elphaba (Erivo) becoming the Wicked Witch of the West and continuing her fight for animal rights while on the run. The film will also follow Glinda (Grande) as she navigates life in the public eye. Their complicated friendship will be challenged, particularly with the arrival of Dorothy Gale from Kansas in Oz.
Wicked: For Good will hit theaters on Nov. 21, 2025.
