Season 3 of “The Wheel of Time” introduced an intriguing plot development involving Elaida, a character who has become one of the series’ most captivating villains in the books. Previously suspected to be a Darkfriend, it is revealed that she is evil in her own right, serving the Light but justifying her actions by disposing of other heroes to achieve what she believes is the greater good.
In the climactic finale of season 3 of “The Wheel of Time,” an important event was the collapse of the White Tower, orchestrated by Elaida who staged a coup against Siuan Sanche. Elaida ended up killing the previous Amyrlin Seat and seizing power, but the story began with a flashback to their past as Aes Sedai, during the original election that set the stage for their long-standing tension. This scene not only delves into the rivalry between the Red and Blue Ajah, but also subtly suggests Elaida’s motivations behind her actions.

In the realm of “The Wheel of Time”, there’s a remarkable talent known as Fortelling, which lets certain characters glimpse into the future. This ability is quite scarce among the characters in Robert Jordan’s books and even more so in the series, but Elaida is widely believed to be one of its possessors. However, the season finale begins with Elaida stepping through a redstone gateway similar to the one Mat crossed later in the episode, where he encountered an Eelfinn.
Elaida goes back to the White Tower and gazes wistfully at a bracelet adorning her hand, from which a key swings. Later, someone queries what the Aelfinn had pledged to her. Elaida then replies, “The position of the Amyrlin Seat itself.” It took another ten years before Elaida would officially ascend to the role of the Amyrlin Seat, indicating that she may not be using prophecy but rather relying on the Finn races for information in exchange for some form of compensation.

Elaida’s Meetings Will Almost Surely Backfire

It appears that Elaida is currently enjoying the rewards from her journey to Finn land, however, this could also indicate a future consequence for her decisions, possibly linked to the bracelet she now wears. In the series, Elaida eventually falls under Seanchan captivity when they attack the White Tower. The employment of ter’angreal collars and bracelets in these novels frequently signify Power connections. Although the full picture isn’t yet clear, it seems likely that Elaida’s destiny will involve her being enslaved as retribution.
