Eiza González and Aaron Paul co-star in upcoming sci-fi horror film Ash

As a seasoned gamer and movie enthusiast with a penchant for sci-fi horror, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming release of ‘Ash’. With Eiza González and Aaron Paul leading the cast, this film is already shaping up to be a thrilling ride. The claustrophobic setting, psychological terror, and element of trust are all ingredients that promise an edge-of-your-seat experience.

Once more, RLJE Films and Shudder have teamed up to deliver the chilling sci-fi horror movie titled “Ash“. This freshly minted suspenseful tale revolves around a pair of individuals whose fate depends on their capacity to rely on each other in confined spaces.

According to Variety, Ash is set to star in the series titled “3 Body Problem,” alongside Eiza González from Westworld and Breaking Bad fame, with Aaron Paul. The story unfolds on a mysterious planet where a woman awakens to find her entire crew brutally killed. Suspecting Brion (played by Paul) as the only possible ally in unraveling the mystery, she must navigate an harrowing journey of psychological and physical torment with him, questioning whether he can truly be trusted.

In this new movie titled Ash, the talented multi-hyphenate Steven Ellison, who is recognized by Grammy Awards as both a filmmaker and musician under the alias Flying Lotus, takes on the director’s role. Previously, Ellison had helmed the experimental film known as Kuso. For both Kuso and his latest production, Ellison penned the screenplay and created the soundtrack.

In a conversation with Hypebeast, the director shared insights about “Ash,” describing it as a traditional narrative film in contrast to his prior work, labeling it an authentic production filmed in New Zealand. Among the upcoming sci-fi horror films slated for release in 2025, “Ash” joins an exciting lineup that includes highly anticipated titles such as “Companion,” “M3GAN 2.0,” and “The Bride.

In addition to González and Paul, Ash is joined by actors such as Iko Uwais from The Expendables 4, Beulah Koale known for Thank You For Your Service, Kate Elliott best recognized from Wentworth, and Andrew B. Miller who appeared in Avatar: The Way of Water. Ellison too plays a part in the movie.

Recently, Shudder has obtained the rights for the body horror movie titled “The Ugly Stepsister,” which offers a fresh perspective on the timeless story of Cinderella. This intriguing production is scheduled to debut at the Sundance Festival in the early months of the coming year.

On March 21, 2025, the movie Ash is set to hit theaters through RLJE Films. Following its theater run, it’s expected to be available for streaming on Shudder at a later point.
