As a dedicated football enthusiast with years of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that KONAMI is on the right track with eFootball 2024. However, to truly elevate the gameplay experience, they need to take it a notch higher.
As KONAMI’s eFootball franchise prepares for its v4.0.0 release, which is almost here, anticipation for the 2024 season update is definitely mounting. KONAMI has kept fans captivated with frequent updates and an ongoing supply of fresh card designs, ensuring each week offers something thrilling. Yet, despite these enhancements, I feel there’s still potential for improvement, especially in the mobile version, which seems to lack essential features. In this article, I’ll outline five key features that should be incorporated into eFootball v4.0.0 to make it a truly transformative update.

1. Master League
In the majority of my posts, you’ll find this particular element – the Master League. It’s not hard to envision that eFootball v4.0.0 could reach new heights with its incorporation. By assuming the role of a football manager, you can select a team, engage in strategic transfer negotiations, design your squad’s tactics, and strive for domestic championships and international acclaim.
Incorporating the timeless gameplay style known as Master League from the PES series into eFootball v4.0.0 could significantly enhance the game, offering a richer and more authentic gaming environment compared to the present My League. Master League’s integration is crucial since it would introduce an engaging, perpetual career mode that fans have been eagerly anticipating, thereby boosting player engagement and excitement.
2. After-match stats
One noteworthy alteration in the latest franchise updates is the absence of post-game statistics. Back in the good old PES days, following each game, there would be an extensive analysis of stats including the colorful heatmaps demonstrating player movements and individual stats for both offensive and defensive players. This feature was instrumental in keeping us engaged with the game’s dynamic.
Instead of keeping popular features from the previous edition, Konami surprisingly chose to eliminate them in the supposed upgrade, which is quite unexpected considering it was initially categorized as a ‘non-next gen’ version. It seems fitting for Konami to reconsider their decisions and reinstate some classic elements to enhance the overall football gaming experience.
3. Quick Substitutions
For quite some time now, I’ve been wrestling with the concern over this addition not materializing sooner, and truthfully, I don’t anticipate it happening any time soon. The vexing aspect is that even EA Sports FC Mobile includes this functionality, and let’s face it, when it comes to gameplay, it’s far from being on the same level as eFootball. Given the advanced features already in place within the game, I believe implementing quick substitutions wouldn’t be a challenge, if you take my point of view.
As a gamer, I can’t stress enough how essential quick substitution features are for an optimal gaming experience. In the heat of intense battles or during those lengthy online matches that feel like they’ll never end, having the ability to swiftly swap players can save valuable time and preserve the rhythm of the game. Instead of constantly pausing to navigate through menus, a simple tap or two can instantly bring about the desired player change, making gaming more fluid and efficient.
4. There’s more to Goals and Assists
Following a prolonged announcement, we introduced a function showing Matches Played, Goals Scored, and Assists. Football is heavily reliant on statistics, and incorporating this feature enhances the realism. However, goals and assists are not the only figures tracked; additional stats need to be shown as well.
It’s high time for KONAMI to advance their game by incorporating a specialized player statistics interface. Given that the game already records fundamental data, why not extend it to encompass goals, assists, tackles, interceptions, and clean sheets? Currently, defenders only have match plays to their credit.
In a similar fashion to how multiple player data is displayed in cooperative games (e.g., 2 out of 3 players), we envision that individual player data will also be showcased in the future, providing insight into each participant’s progress separately.
5. The “art” of Passing
As a gamer, I can’t help but notice something odd about the top bar that appears when I make a pass. It seems to be measuring something that isn’t really power; instead, it just indicates the distance of the pass. It’s confusing because all passes (except for Stunning Passes) have the same power level. I believe this system should be customizable by the player for a more realistic and engaging gameplay experience.
A significant enhancement would be the option to falsify a pass, which is currently not available in this game. In many football matches, you have the ability to undo a pass, but that functionality seems to be absent here. Once you’ve set a direction, there’s no way to alter it, even if you realize later that you made a mistake. The capability to reverse or redirect would introduce more tactical possibilities and help alleviate those annoying instances of miscalculation.
Bonus: Revamped Player Rating System
Actually, if you’re under the impression we’re discussing player card ratings now, you might be mistaken. While it’s true that the ratings have been quite extreme recently, let me clarify that’s not the focus at hand here. Do you recall when the game first started and lower-rated cards were initially released? Then, all of a sudden, they jumped back to those incredibly high-rated ones? Well, that inconsistency is still very much prevalent today.
What I’m really talking about are the player ratings you’d get after each match, the ones that broke down how each player performed on the pitch. You score a poker with your striker who also gives the player an assist, KONAMI slaps an 8.5 rating max. That’s scandalous. The rating system needs a revamp, and if they are taking note of key passes and other stats in-game, better if they add important ratings to it.
Some other recommended changes
As a passionate gamer, I’ve got some suggestions for the eFootball v4.0.0 update that could take things to the next level. Expanding the game modes would be fantastic, and while the daily matches are decent, I’d love to see more excitement with penalty kicks. However, what really needs an upgrade is the scorecard design. It’s great they’ve given unique ones for the AFC Champions League, but considering the variety of licensed leagues available, a fresh, new scorecard design would be much appreciated.
Another change that should be kept in mind is the absence of referees on the pitch, a problem that’s been around for years. Despite repeated requests from players, this key feature is still missing, which hurts the game’s realism. The game’s league game mode, My League, is kind of good, but it does need some revamps to keep the replayability intact, especially giving rewards for Dream Team as well.
