Every week, eFootball 2026 releases Player of the Week (POTW) packs, especially featuring top players from European leagues when the new season starts. It’s understandable that these frequent releases can be a little confusing.
I wondered what the best approach was for these packs, too. But I noticed some clear trends that actually worked really well! That’s why I created this guide – to explain everything and help you choose the best Player of the Week (POTW) cards in eFootball 2026.
How to choose a POTW card in eFootball 2026
1. Significance of the card in your squad
It should be pretty clear, but take a look at your team before getting a Player of the Week (POTW) card. Do you actually need it? If it’s not one of the best cards available, that’s okay – it could still be useful in a special themed team you’re working on. Since coins are limited, making these decisions can be tricky, so always check what your team needs first.
2. Comparison with the Base version
That new Player of the Week card might seem appealing, but before you buy it, consider if it’s a significant improvement over the player’s regular card or other versions you already have. If the upgrades are small and you have a comparable card, it might not be worth the cost. Keep in mind that some POTW cards do have added skills, which could be a deciding factor.

As a gamer, I really appreciate that Player of the Week (POTW) cards come fully trained. It means I can immediately see their max stats, which makes comparing them to my current players super easy. If I already have an older version of a POTW card – maybe from when he played for a different club – it’s definitely worth considering an upgrade. Especially if the new card just fits my team better overall.
3. Added Skills
I touched on stats earlier, but skills are the next key thing, and honestly, I think they’re the most important. Once a Player of the Week (POTW) card is obtained, you can’t improve its skills, so they’re limited to a maximum of 10 skills, even with position boosts.
Sometimes, when a player card is updated, KONAMI will swap out one skill for another. This can be frustrating if they replace a skill you rely on. Before using a new card, make sure its skills fit how you like to play. If they don’t, you might want to reconsider using it.
4. Form and Player Conditioning
Okay, so a lot of us get caught up looking at those big stats when picking players in POTW, but honestly, player conditioning is huge. It doesn’t matter how good a player is on paper if they’re always out of form. In eFootball now, it’s broken down into three levels: Inconsistent, Standard, and Unwavering. Basically, these levels tell you how often your player will stay in top shape. Unwavering is what you want, obviously, because that means they’ll consistently perform well!

As a big fan of building the best teams, I’ve learned that since Player of the Week (POTW) cards are the highest-rated, you really shouldn’t accept anything less than ‘Unwavering Form’ for your players. It makes a huge difference! Honestly, it directly impacts how consistently they perform. If you’re checking your players before a match and you see a lot of ‘Red arrow condition’ – meaning their stats are fluctuating downwards – it’s a clear sign they’re just not reliable and you need to find someone more consistent.
When you’re looking at a player’s stats, be sure to check their form at the bottom. Injury Resistance isn’t a big deal in this game because injuries don’t happen very often. If you’d like to learn more about live updates, form, and the conditioning system, I have a separate guide you can read.
5. Always pick Utility Players
This is a really helpful idea. “Utility players” are valuable because they’re able to play several different positions. Sometimes, a player might be asked to play a position they don’t usually play during a game, and this can actually improve their ratings in that specific area.
Even if a player’s overall rating doesn’t change, their individual skills will get better when you play them in new positions. This improvement makes them a more useful and versatile player for your team.
Bonus: Consistent Real World Performers
As a big fan, I’ve noticed that players who are consistently great in real life usually have an A or B Live Update rating, which keeps them performing well in the game. If I’m lucky enough to get their Booster Player of the Week card, that’s even better! They get an extra +2 or +3 boost depending on how they’re playing, making them even more powerful on my team.
You’re probably wondering which players are the best right now. Players like Mbappe, Pedri, Salah, Raphinha, Bellingham, and Palmer are consistently top performers and receive high ratings. If you want to see how a player’s ratings have changed over time, you can find that information on the eFootballHUB website.
