eFootball 2025: Top attributes and skills to note while choosing a Defender for your squad

In the upcoming game, eFootball 2025, while there may not have been significant additions to the gameplay beyond the entertaining Strike Arena features, they’re still planning on releasing some eye-catching Epic cards. Previously, I’ve written extensively about the essential attributes of forwards and midfielders, but now it’s time to focus on the defense. In eFootball 2025, defenders and goalkeepers form the solid foundation of a powerful team. To build a strong squad, you need to make informed decisions when selecting defenders and goalkeepers by considering crucial attributes and skills that suit your playing style. Here’s a guide to help you choose the most important attributes and skills for a Defender in eFootball 2025.

Top Attributes and Skills for a Defender in eFootball 2025

I’ve added the Goalkeeper to our defensive unit. Alongside him, we now have Center-backs and Fullbacks.

Centre-backs (CB)

In this situation, players find themselves perplexed about the specific strategies that yield success. Some express dissatisfaction over a supposed lack of height in their Cannavaro, while others encounter difficulties with a seemingly tall Van Dijk. Although attributes play a role, it’s crucial to field at least two center backs in this game, making it essential to have a pair that work well together.

As a devoted football enthusiast, I can’t stress enough the importance of three fundamental skills every defender should excel in: tackling, intercepting, and maintaining high defensive awareness. The goal is to have these stats consistently in the high 90s for your defenders. Tackling and interception are crucial for dominating one-on-one situations and disrupting opposing plays, while a keen sense of defensive awareness keeps them in the right place at the right time on the field.

Due to the emphasis on Physicality in the game, it’s crucial that your character isn’t overly fragile on the field. Physical Interactions, especially those scoring above 80, should be prioritized because there are powerful forwards in the game who have better balance than your defenders. This means they could easily knock you off balance.

As a football enthusiast, I’ve got to talk about the “complement each other” aspect that’s often overlooked. Height is indeed crucial, but it doesn’t guarantee speed among all tall defenders. Instead, it’s the smart ones who truly shine in ground defending. Legendary figures like Baresi, Cannavaro, and Marquinhos are perfect examples of this. Therefore, to fortify your defense, pair a smart, agile defender with a towering one for optimal results.

To excel in this game, it’s essential that players possess the following abilities: Heading, Man Marking, Interception, Acrobatic Clearance, Fighting Spirit, Aerial Superiority, Blocker, and Sliding Tackle. For defenders who focus on building up plays, a decent Passing stat along with two additional skills should suffice. However, for Destroyers and Extra Frontman players, prioritize high aggression to secure the ball before the opponent’s attacking third.

Full-backs (LB/RB)

In my view, it’s crucial for two fullbacks to have distinct roles, with one primarily focusing on offense and the other on defense. This alignment should be based on the team’s playing style, ensuring that both offensive and defensive duties are adequately covered, or ideally a blend of the two is employed.

Characteristics encompassed are Speed, Endurance, and Crossing, coupled with impressive Short and Long Pass skills. One might wonder why a defensive fullback requires crossing abilities, but it can prove indispensable when seeking to alter the direction of play across the field. Offensive Fullbacks often excel in Dribbling, so let’s discuss some key points related to their dribbling prowess in the game.

Essential skills such as tackling and defensive awareness are still crucial for maintaining position against wingers. In games focused on ball possession, tight control and low-pass strategies can enhance the flow of your offensive moves. On the other hand, counter attacking styles necessitate players with exceptional acceleration and offensive awareness to execute swift attacks.

A Full-Back Finisher is another tactical approach that enhances his offensive potential by equipping him with skills like Long Range Shooting or First Time Shot, along with good finishing abilities. However, it’s not mandatory to design your full-backs around this playstyle. Instead, tailor them according to your team strategy and specific needs.

In summary, it’s crucial that your fullbacks possess these key talents: Precise Crossing, Interception, and the ability to Retreat (also known as Track Back). The latter skill is particularly significant for offensively-inclined fullbacks, enabling them to quickly reposition and assist the defense when needed. Fullbacks with good ball control and skills such as Running Circles (Cut Behind & Turn) and One-Touch Passing can enhance their contributions in offensive plays.

Goalkeepers (GK)

A goalkeeper plays a crucial role as your final barrier in a match, and their abilities can significantly impact its outcome. It’s essential to prioritize quick reflexes, sharp goalkeeping instincts, and an impressive reach as the fundamental attributes. If your goalkeeper appears sluggish or unresponsive, it suggests that these attributes may need improvement. To address this issue, focus on enhancing these key aspects to ensure a more effective performance.

Occasionally, players might overlook a goalkeeper’s Jump capabilities, leading them to assign no points to it. However, remember that being able to leap is crucial for tasks like catching loose balls, responding to corners, and reaching difficult areas of the goal where just Reflex isn’t enough. So, make sure you take note of this skill too.

Essential abilities for goalkeepers encompass the techniques such as Low Punt Kick and Penalty Saving. An unconventional yet valuable skill is Acrobatic Clearance, especially when faced with danger. For swiftly moving the ball, Long Throw and One-Touch Pass are beneficial skills to master.
