My preferred card in this set, I’ve long admired the standalone booster variant of it, and this updated version is particularly noteworthy due to its enhanced Show Time skill. For those familiar with the mechanics of FITB, querying them will reveal that Van Basten ranks among the top 3 strikers in this playstyle.

This card stands out for its exceptional speed and acceleration, backed by top-tier finishing stats. He’s the type of striker who sends defenders into a frenzy the instant he enters the box. His heading abilities often soar into the 90s, and he’s well-known for his penchant for scoring headers.

He possesses good balance and jumping ability, which allows him to execute impressive volleys and headers when timed correctly. His skillset is well-equipped for the task at hand. Additionally, his proficiency in “Outside Curling” and “Aerial Mastery” could prove particularly beneficial.

Oliver Kahn

• Position: GK
• Playstyle: Defensive Goalkeeper
• Showtime Skill: None

Oliver Kahn is certainly a top contender, and it’s easy to understand why. He boasts impressive statistics, his exceptional reflexes and ability to catch being his standout traits. I was fortunate enough to acquire him when he debuted with the German pack, alongside Rummenigge and Matthäus. Over hundreds of games, my initial positive feelings towards him have remained unchanged.

Straight away, Kahn demonstrates skill in one-on-one scenarios, maintains good alignment, and boasts excellent positioning. However, the problems I pointed out previously persist: he tends to concede more goals from long-range shots than expected. It’s not catastrophic, but it’s evident during intense online matches.

His quick responses on the field have remained poor over time, which can be quite frustrating. As for defensive goalkeepers, my top choices are Schmeichel, Buffon, Cech, and Dida. Courtois shines brightest among them; Kahn is not even a close contender as an upgrade.

Fabio Cannavaro

• Position: CB
• Playing Style: Destroyer
• Showtime Skill: None

When I spotted Cannavaro in the European Clubs Guardians set, he immediately caught my attention because I hadn’t been able to acquire the National Team version. Fortunately, KONAMI released the latter, although it doesn’t come with the Fortress show time skill.

1. The two cards are nearly identical, with very few differences.
2. He moves swiftly, closes in, and causes trouble for strikers attempting to change direction or advance the ball. He excels at one-on-one defending. The card clings to attackers as if by magic and recovers rapidly, often even when a turn occurs.

The main issue seems to revolve around aerial situations. I owned a 104-rated single booster variant of Cannavaro, and its Heading stats (90) were excellent for defending in the air. However, even with progression, I don’t find it significantly better. At Right Back (RB), this card performs exceptionally well.

Diego Forlan

• Position: CF
• Playing Style: Goal Poacher
• Showtime Skill: None

This one’s quite popular, I own the Captain Tsubasa version, and it’s easy to see why. What catches your eye right away is his incredible agility. He’s always managing to slip between defenders and is constantly prepared for a swift strike without needing to control the ball first.

His final touches are exceptional, and his kicking force is devastatingly powerful. From the outskirts of the penalty box, he can launch precision shots into the goal. He demonstrates strong ball control and stability, making him appear faster than his actual speed might suggest.

If you’ve been using him or plan to, I suggest allocating some skill points into the ‘Physical Contact’. He might occasionally lose possession or struggle against tough central defenders, but it’s a minor adjustment. However, Forlan remains one of the most precise finishers I’ve utilized this year.

Martin Caceres

• Position: LB
• Playing Style: Offensive Fullback
• Showtime Skill: Fortress

If you dismiss Caceres because he’s categorized as a Linebacker (LB) and doesn’t boast a high Overall Rating (OVR), you might be missing a gem. With a 107 rating in CB, if you construct him accordingly, he checks all the necessary boxes. His positioning and aggression are exceptionally good traits that make it hard to confine him to the sidelines.

His speed is a significant advantage; when you boost that figure into the 90s, he becomes a winner in sprint races and bridges gaps effortlessly, much like a seasoned defensive player. Keep the defending instructions active for him, enabling you to position him effectively as a Center Back (CB).

Bebeto

• Position: CF
• Playing Style: Fox in the Box
• Showtime Skill: None

Similarly to the previous instance, Bebeto can be considered an underrated player as well. After giving him a spin from the National Attackers pack way back in March, I must admit that this card is truly excellent for a striker.

He exhibits quick and strategic movements within the box, and when placed in optimal positions, his finishing is remarkably accurate. Some refer to him as a “Mini-Romario,” suggesting a similar playing style, although if his physical attributes were slightly improved, one might come closer to comparing him directly.

Overlooking a player with a strong shooting ability from virtually any angle isn’t common, and this particular individual lacks the physicality for collisions. However, he offers speed, precision in finishing, and agility, making him an excellent choice if you don’t need a bruiser upfront. Instead of opting for more Goal Poachers, I recommend considering this Fast FITB striker.

Paul Scholes

• Position: AMF
• Playing Style: Creative Playmaker
• Showtime Skill: Visionary Pass

Initially, when Scholes received the Creative Playmaker role upon his arrival with the National Midfielders pack, my initial assumption was that an Orchestrator build would have been more fitting for him. It’s odd to me that not many people seem enthusiastic about this card.

In his role as an Attacking Midfielder (AMF), he doesn’t deliver the sharpness you’d expect in the crucial final third. Although his stats for passing and dribbling are impressive, when playing with him, he doesn’t seem nimble or smooth; instead, he feels a bit rigid. I eventually moved him to a Central Midfielder (CMF) position, and it was there that he seemed more comfortable and natural.

From more strategic locations, his passing skills truly excel, particularly the heavier and lofted ones. Don’t ignore his long-range shots; those high, powerful strikes can still be effective, despite appearing less forceful. If you’ve acquired him, I recommend constructing a Complete Midfielder (CMF) setup to fully utilize his abilities.

Dragan Stojkovic

• Position: AMF
• Playing Style: Creative Playmaker
• Showtime Skill: None

This individual joined forces with Scholes, and while he wasn’t the player many anticipated, he’s proven to be reliable. In my opinion, Stojkovic moves gracefully; his excellent ball control and tight possession allow him to seemingly glide across the midfield. Although some statistics may not suggest elite status, his in-game intuition paints a different picture.

What sets him apart is his talent for setting the beat; his passing is precise and spot-on. Enhancing additional skills will definitely be beneficial. His long-range shooting is quite strong as well; there’s a lot of power behind those finesse attempts. If you’re looking for more speed, you can boost it above 90, but keep in mind that other attributes might suffer.

Xabi Alonso

• Position: CMF
• Playstyle: Orchestrator
• Showtime Skill: Visionary Pass

In this rendition of Xabi Alonso’s gameplay, he faithfully embodies his role as a Conductor. His passing statistics across all categories are elite, making him an exceptional choice for the auto build. Remarkably high in both Low Passes and Lofted Passes, these skills are some of the best you can find within the system. The ability that enhances this, his unique strength, is Visionary Pass.

He possesses strong ball handling skills in deeper playing areas, but his movement could use some improvement. His speed and quickness are just average, giving an impression of not being particularly agile. However, there’s room for improvement in these aspects.

His endurance could use some improvement, but he’s quite solid defensively with impressive stats in awareness, involvement, and tackling. However, if you’re not constructing a slow-paced midfield, there are faster, more effective alternatives available. Regardless, this is a well-rounded player, possibly undervalued.

Denilson

• Position: LWF
• Playing Style: Cross Specialist
• Showtime Skill: None

Denilson isn’t typically chosen for strategic reasons; instead, he’s selected for his style, entertainment value, and exhilarating gameplay. This card has already attracted a lot of criticism, but skillful dribblers will find him most beneficial. He debuted with the Brazil pack, and when it comes to dribbling, this card is distinctly designed.

His feet are remarkably swift, with excellent control, smooth direction changes, and quick responsiveness. All these aspects seem impressive to me, which is why I think it’s more suitable to assign him high 90s in ball control for dribbling. However, I feel that the progression points for passing should be given in the 80s range, as I noticed a noticeable improvement in his creativity as a player in this category.

Kaká

• Position: AMF
• Playstyle: Creative Playmaker
• Showtime Skill: Phenomenal Pass

This Kaka card emphasizes skills like agile movement and precise passing, showcasing nimble footwork and sharp maneuvers due to his exceptional dribbling and ball control. His speed and balance make him an efficient ball-carrier, particularly when pushing the ball forward.

However, he doesn’t appear to be the exceptional Kaka one might anticipate. It’s as if he was deliberately hindered somehow. His shooting skills aren’t at the top level, but his Phenomenal Pass seems to be a valuable asset. In new teams, he integrates well for creative setups, but he may not be a necessary choice for veterans.

Iker Casillas

• Position: GK
• Playstyle: Offensive Goalkeeper
• Showtime Skill: None

In the spotlight of much debate is the player ID belonging to Casillas. He introduces robust abilities in saving shots, notably in his reflexes and diving, which make him a dependable goalkeeper on the field. His impressive leap and goalkeeping skills are visually appealing.

Despite his impressive moments, his overall play can be rather unpredictable and inconsistent. This inconsistency is noticeable even in his top-notch performances. The primary reason for this is that his player ID possesses moderately average attributes, which unfortunately do not deliver the desired results.

Gareth Bale

• Position: CF
• Playstyle: Goal Poacher
• Showtime Skill: Blitz Curler

In this particular iteration, Bale has taken on a form resembling a forward player rather than his typical winger position. He exhibits remarkable speed for a center forward, making him a potent threat during breakaways. His finishing skills are dependable, and coupled with his ability to take long-range shots, they make quite an impact.

He obtains a Blitz Curler skill, which is definitely an advantage. However, his dribbling skills are surprisingly poor, contrary to what people might believe about Bale. His weak foot and stamina are significant concerns, and you may notice that his off-ball movement isn’t as agile as other top-tier forwards due to a possible lack of offensive awareness. He works best in a counterattacking setup.

Wayne Rooney

• Position: SS
• Playstyle: Hole Player
• Showtime Skill: Phenomenal Finishing

This is the card I drew from the complimentary pack. At first glance, Rooney appears to be a versatile force on offense. He demonstrates excellent ball handling skills, maintains good possession, and possesses impressive passing abilities. Additionally, he has a knack for scoring goals and kicks the ball with considerable power. His physical strength and stamina make him a formidable presence in the game as well.

In simpler terms, playing games online can be unpredictable. I experimented with two different builds for SS/AMF and CF, but found that the CF build didn’t suit me well, not just because of playstyle, but also due to issues with the build itself. The speed was enhanced, but it felt too heavy for my preference. Although he can perform a variety of roles, there are more effective specialists for each position. He functions more as a utility attacker on your team instead.

Carles Puyol

• Position: CB
• Playstyle: Destroyer
• Showtime Skill: None

As a supporter of FC Barcelona, I’d express that this card seems quite disrespectful for one of the game’s top players. For those just starting out as Free-to-Play newcomers, this card is reasonable. The defensive stats are in the high 90s, which is commendable. His physical contact and jumping abilities are also impressive, aiding him in aerial challenges.

He’s not particularly skilled; his poor dribbling and balance often result in turnovers, and his speed is far too slow for fast-paced games with quick forwards. However, I believe you could find a suitable partnership for him by teaming him up with a faster, taller center back, which might bring out the best in Puyol.

It’s sheer folly not to include him in your team, in my view. As for Forlan, I would place him on the same level, but unfortunately, he lacks the ‘Phenomenal Finishing’ attribute, which can be a significant factor.

In terms of defense, I strongly believe that Caceres would make an excellent choice as a center back due to his added speed, height, and ability to contribute to the team’s build-up plays. Regrettably, players like Iker Casillas and Puyol have faced unfair criticism for their supposed lack of good player IDs. Consequently, unless you are specifically constructing themed squads, I would advise against selecting players from the B and C tiers.
