eFootball 2025: Guide to understand Manager Tactics with Tips

As a seasoned gamer and eFootball 2025 enthusiast, I’ve had my fair share of triumphs and tribulations while navigating the vast world of virtual football management. In this guide, I aim to share some insights that will help you make informed decisions when it comes to choosing your manager and forming your team.

In sports, a manager’s strategies are vital for bringing out the best in a team. The standout feature of eFootball 2025, which was launched in 2023, is the revamped approach to tactics and training systems. This update has been particularly well-received by longtime fans as it offers a new dimension to team management, enabling you to customize your starting lineup with strategies of your preferred manager. The player’s playstyle and your chosen tactics significantly impact the performance of your team in eFootball 2025, and mastering the tactical setup requires time and practice.

To help players understand the tactics and implement them in the game, I have come up with this detailed article that will help describe the Five eFootball Manager tactics available along with a few tips, after testing out different formations and managers.

Introducing the Manager Tactics in eFootball 2025

In the mobile game version, the Manager Tactics have been part of the game since its launch. Unfortunately, players can’t adjust the pre-set tactics for individual players. For instance, if you choose Pep Guardiola, he would only be accessible as a “Possession Game” manager, and there’s no way to alter or play any other style associated with him because such an option was not provided initially.

In actual football games, managers often find the strategies they employed ineffective due to their inflexibility. Ideally, they would prefer to adjust their formations based on the opposing team or changing game situations. Such adaptability could significantly impact the match’s result and overall performance of the team.

In this new edition of the game, players have the freedom to adapt their strategies based on the adjustments they deem necessary. With various formation options and the ability to modify tactics on-the-fly, the game enables players to respond to shifts in the game as they see fit at any point during the match.

Manager Familiarity

To effectively evaluate a manager’s strategies, it’s crucial to recognize that each strategy may resonate differently with each manager due to their unique experiences and skillsets honed through practical application. This information is gleaned from the real-world approaches they have taken and their ability to execute those tactics successfully.

This will be a major factor in choosing a manager, and it will also reflect in getting the best from your players and the team. Apart from the legendary managers, the maximum playstyle proficiency a common manager can have is 87 and the least is 50. However Legendary managers can have variable playstyle proficiency.

To achieve a Team Spirit score of 100, it’s crucial that players have the maximum level of familiarity. Moreover, strategically training your players according to the right tactics significantly contributes to a well-performing team.

eFootball 2025 Manager Tactics Guide

There are a total of five tactics that can be implemented in the game.

Possession Game

  • Notable Managers: Luis A. Roman (Pep Guardiola), Luis Enrique

Overview

In everyday management, it’s common for many managers to excel at a strategy known as the Possession Game. This approach relies on maintaining control of the situation by keeping possession of the ‘ball’ (in this context, resources or tasks), making strategic movements off the ‘ball’ (taking actions that create space for others or rearrange responsibilities), and pushing the ‘ball’ upfield (advancing tasks or projects) to confuse opponents (other team members or competitors) and take advantage of any weaknesses in their defense (vulnerabilities in their work processes or strategies).

With the “Possession Game,” you’ll notice players huddled together, seeking the ball, and a gradual, methodical approach that aims to force the opposition into an error. To excel in this playstyle, it’s essential to have skillful dribblers and passers on your team. This style demands players with strong technical abilities, so be sure to check out my comprehensive guide on constructing a squad for the Possession Game.

Team Formation

When adopting a possession-based playstyle, it’s essential to think about formations that keep players close together for seamless ball movement. The most effective choices often include midfield setups with three players, such as the 4-3-3, 4-2-1-3, and 4-2-3-1 formations.

Quick Counter

  • Notable Managers: G. Zeitzler (Jurgen Klopp), Gasperini

Overview

A strategy often used by cautious coaches, when executed flawlessly, can wreak havoc. Real Madrid under Jose Mourinho was a powerhouse in implementing this technique, achieving great victories over teams using it. The present Liverpool squad also excels in this playstyle. This fast-paced and energetic approach is applied both in defense and offense at a very intense level.

One key advantage of this play style lies in making swift runs past the opposing defense, which frequently presents opportunities for long passes or opening spaces to take a shot. The pace of your attack is crucial here, so it’s advisable to select fast and nimble players as forwards, while tall and agile defenders are also beneficial. Team Formation

Swift counter-attacking teams can adapt to various formations, whether they’re narrow or wide. Employing a Quick Counter strategy with formations like the 4-1-2-3, 4-3-1-2, 5-3-2, 4-3-2-1 (and so on) can be incredibly effective in gameplay.

Long Ball Counter

  • Notable Managers: Cristo Valbuena (Diego Simeone), Jose Mourinho

Overview

An alternative strategy for a quick strike back is known as the Long Ball Counterattack, which relies on a more cautious defensive setup. This method, similar to regular swift counterattacks, utilizes long passes from the backline of the team instead. The defense maintains a deeper position than typical and absorbs the attacking team’s pressure while searching for an opportunity to launch a long pass forward.

To successfully execute the long ball counter strategy, your players should constantly move offside in order to find open spaces beyond the opposing defense for scoring opportunities. This requires a skilled forward who is quick, has good ball control, and understands when to stay onside. Defensively, it’s crucial to have taller players to block those high balls and crosses from reaching your goal. Team Formation

In simpler terms, for a team that relies on long balls, it’s not necessary to overcrowd the midfield. A solid defense with good ball progression and long passing can be more effective. Therefore, I recommend trying out the 5-2-3 or 5-3-2 formations in practice, as these seem suitable for a Long Ball counter-attacking strategy.

Long Ball

  • Notable Managers: E. Greening (David Moyes), F. Helson (Sean Dyche)

Overview

The strategy referred to here isn’t the “Long Ball Counterattack”, contrary to its name. Instead, it focuses on playing the ball long towards the main striker or central player when the team regains possession from the opposition. This move doesn’t primarily aim at creating chances but is essential for applying pressure and reclaiming the ball. During an attack, the midfield is often bypassed through long passes originating from the back, which is necessary for this tactic.

Given that this strategy often leads to losing the ball due to high risk, it’s crucial to have a defense and midfield that work tirelessly to regain control of the ball. Endurance is key in such situations. For the offensive players, it’s important to incorporate those with excellent ball handling skills. Defenders should ideally have good ball progression statistics and abilities. For more detailed insights, feel free to check out my comprehensive guide on constructing a Long Ball team.

Team Formation

Long Ball playstyle is versatile and can be implemented with various formations. For instance, I’ve found success using the 4-2-3-1, 3-4-1-2, and even the 5-2-2-1 formations while employing this tactic. It appears to deliver positive outcomes for numerous players as well.

Out Wide

Notable Managers: Thomas Tuchel, Gareth Southgate

Overview

Expanding the team’s formation to focus on playing down the sidelines characterizes the Out Wide playstyle. The aim is to extend the play area, positioning wingers along the flanks. This strategy forces the defense of the opponent to widen, creating opportunities for wide play. When there’s an opening in the middle, they can pass the ball through and score goals effectively using crossing and cutting back techniques.

Most of the players from his team run towards the center to be at the receiving end of the pass, which might make them vulnerable to counterattacks. So make sure you play players with a Track Back skill so that they do not stay forward at the moment. Wingers with good crossing skills are important in utilizing this playstyle effectively. For further read, refer to my complete guide to building an Out Wide squad.

Team Formation

Under this manager’s strategy, formations with wide-spread wingers perform effectively, such as a 3-4-3, 4-3-3, 4-2-2-2, and so on.

Tips to choose your manager and form your team

A few questions remain, how do I choose my Manager? How do I choose my team? Well, I will give you some tips that you need to remember while you choose a team and play a manager.

1. Manager Familiarity is always important

To make strategies more accessible for players, opt for tactics that you’re comfortable with. Select players whose skills complement your preferred style, such as choosing players with excellent ball control for a possession-based game strategy. This helps maintain ball control and recycling in congested areas effectively.

2. Field teams with adaptable managers

If you’re considering changing your strategy but feel unsure due to lack of experience, it’s a common question among players: “What if I try something new?” In this scenario, imagine a manager who is proficient in two distinct tactics, for example, Santos and Enrique. They can effectively use both Possession and Quick Counter tactics with enough expertise.

Train your team to be proficient in both Possession Game and Quick Counter strategies. While this might slightly decrease their stats, it will provide you with the flexibility to select tactics tailored to the type of opposition encountered.

3. Do play the same playstyle as the manager

Instead of frequently employing the Long Ball Counter strategy while possessing the ball, it’s beneficial to stick with your chosen tactic, as each one is designed with a specific purpose in mind. While the Long Ball Counter may work at times, it’s important to remember that consistency in your play style can lead to better results.
