As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but share my elation upon learning Edwina Bartholomew‘s encouraging update on her heart-wrenching cancer journey.

41-year-old Star of the Sunrise show disclosed her recent diagnosis of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML), a form of cancer affecting the blood and bone marrow, during a live broadcast in September.

Today, the popular television host shared an upbeat message on Instagram, announcing that she’s approaching a significant milestone in her health journey: her leukemia is almost untraceable.

‘I am almost in what they call molecular remission,’ she wrote.

This suggests that due to my daily medication, a skilled specialist, and having more time granted by Seven, I’ve managed to work part-time at Sunrise primarily for health reasons. As a result, the leukemia in my body has become nearly undetectable, almost eradicated.

Edwina continued by sharing that she’ll need to keep taking her medication for a while yet, which is the next several years, but this positive development remains her main focus.

She shared that she will continue to require medication for some time, but it’s wonderful news, and she feels compelled to spread the word, considering many others are fighting their own severe cancer battles. This news doesn’t escape her how fortunate she has been in this situation.

After Edwina shared at Marie Claire’s Women’s Day event in Sydney last month, it became clear that her cancer diagnosis has significantly affected her life.

Edwina shared, “I was lucky; I had a whole month to prepare before informing others about it. Fortunately, I went through that experience without needing chemotherapy.

‘The cancer served as a valuable lesson, helping me appreciate life more deeply… I fortunately didn’t endure an extremely taxing ordeal where my existence was consumed entirely by cancer.’

Edwina expressed her deep appreciation as her symptoms allowed her a comfortable control, enabling her to carry on with many aspects of her usual routine daily.

She mentioned that she met with her specialist recently but accidentally overlooked going for her blood test, so it’s not currently at the top of her thoughts.

‘I am acutely aware of how fortunate I am to carry on semi-normally… I haven’t had to explain this change to my children because I still appear the same. It has forced me to reconsider and slow down my pace.’

Edwina has been diagnosed with a relatively mild type of leukemia, which frequently allows for management without the need for chemotherapy and avoiding the more intense symptoms associated with the condition.

The television host has a family with her spouse Neil Varcoe, which includes their two young kids, Molly who is five years old, and Tom, aged three.

In September, Edwina publicly shared during a broadcast that she had been diagnosed with cancer, making a heartfelt confession filled with tears.

‘I have been diagnosed with cancer. That’s a shock and hard to say,’ she told viewers.

‘This condition is quite beneficial to manage. It’s known as Chronic Myeloid Leukemia. With regular intake of a daily pill, it can be effectively treated. By taking proper care of myself, I should be able to recover fully.’

Later, the seasoned television personality found himself on the verge of tears, sharing with the audience, “I tried to stay composed.

Edwina disclosed that it was her co-star, Natalie Barr, who helped her secure a prompt diagnosis.

Nat, aged 57, experienced a health concern related to skin cancer in June. During a regular examination, a suspicious growth was discovered on her nose, prompting her to schedule a comprehensive health evaluation at her personal physician’s office.

As per the Mayo Clinic’s report, Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) is a relatively rare form of cancer found within the marrow of bones, and it tends to advance at a sluggish pace.

Significant strides in therapy have significantly enhanced the outlook for individuals suffering from Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML). The majority of those diagnosed are able to reach remission, often living for extended periods.
