As a lifelong fan of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Eduardo Xol. He was not just a designer and TV personality, but a beacon of kindness and compassion who brought joy and hope to countless families through his work on the show.

Eduardo Xol, a well-known figure on the ABC reality series “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” has passed away. He was 58 years old.

On Friday, the designer and television personality passed away at the Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, as confirmed by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Coroner. This happened ten days after an assault occurred at a residence in Palm Springs.

At 5:41 a.m. on September 10th, as reported by the police in Palm Springs, they received a call for assistance from an individual. However, this person didn’t offer enough particulars about the situation.

When police arrived, they heard a man’s distressed voice coming from within the house. Upon entering, they found a person who appeared to have suffered severe injuries due to an assault, according to their observations. The victim told officers that he had been stabbed, but did not reveal the identity of his attacker.

Later, Xol was moved to a hospital where he was classified as critically ill yet maintaining stability.

A while after, police got a phone call from an individual who asserted he had been attacked the evening before. Upon responding, they recognized the caller as Richard Joseph Gonzales, a 34-year-old resident of Cathedral City.

Based on a deeper probe, authorities identified Gonzales as the prime suspect in the previous stabbing case. As a result, he was taken into custody for alleged attempted murder and lodged at the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio.

As per prison records, Gonzales currently remains detained, facing a charge for murder. No bail has been granted, and his court appearance is scheduled for December 18th.

Representatives for Xol did not immediately respond Thursday to The Times’ requests for comment.

For over seven seasons, from 2005 to 2012, Xol worked alongside Ty Pennington on “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” During this time, they were a part of the team that won two Emmy Awards for the show, in 2005 and 2006.

Apart from his acting roles, he was a writer as well. He featured in the 1998 movie titled “Bravo” and several Spanish-language soap operas of the 1990s, namely “La Jaula de Oro,” “Sentimientos de Oro,” and “Acapulco, Cuerpo y Alma.

In a statement issued to Today.com, Xol’s family said they were heartbroken over the “tragic loss.”

Personally speaking, his compassionate actions have left an indelible impact on countless individuals. Now, in return, we kindly request the same understanding and respect for our privacy during this trying time as we grieve together.

On his Instagram Stories, Pennington expressed his deep sadness upon learning about the passing of Eduardo on Wednesday.

“Truly the most genuine, kind soul,” the “Extreme Makeover” star said.

From 2005 to 2012, the television show titled ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’ was on air. It made a comeback in 2020 and is scheduled to appear again on ABC and Hulu from 2024-2025.
