Eddie Redmayne gets green light for £4.25m country retreat ‘forever home’ – with massive ‘overhaul’ on the way: RICHARD EDEN’S DIARY

The Oscar-winning actor, Eddie Redmayne, has been granted permission to develop a permanent residence for his family at a tranquil rural estate, complete with a swimming pool and tennis court.

Last year, it was revealed that the actor purchased a nine-bedroom, Grade II listed house in Wiltshire, situated on 18 acres of land, for approximately £4.25 million. Recently, he has been granted permission to undertake significant renovations on this property.

Eddie, an Eton alumnus, along with his spouse Hannah, are aiming to give a complete facelift to their home’s exterior. Their plans include fixing and repainting brickwork, as well as re-roofing the house. Inside, they aspire to renovate the wooden flooring, insert wood fiber insulation, and swap out the old boiler for ground-source heat pumps.

Wiltshire Council granted approval for the project, finding the designs to be thoughtful and harmonious. The submission noted that the property had been sold for the first time since the 1930s, with the last significant renovations taking place during that era. The new proprietors, who are raising a family, aim to make this house their permanent residence.

In my expertise, I’d like to emphasize that the new proprietors, who share a deep-rooted affection for history, were drawn to this property primarily because it embodies classic architecture – a testament to their traditional tastes.

Eddie, aged 43, and Hannah, aged 42, are thought to be delaying their move until the completion of the renovations, at which point they plan to bring along their kids, Iris who is nine years old, and Luke who is seven.

Harry’s ‘first kiss’ enjoys electric do

While the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were enjoying Wimbledon instead of staying at their country residence, Anmer Hall, their local aristocratic friends threw a celebration in Norfolk.

At their 18th-century Kimberley Hall estate, Robbie and Iona Buxton threw an extravagant party that was attended by none other than Tom Parker Bowles, who is related to Queen Camilla.

At the event, Sophia Hesketh, aged 40, known for reportedly being Prince Harry’s first kiss and daughter of a former Conservative treasurer Lord Hesketh, donned an electric blue wig and coordinating gown. Her partner, Ollie Birkbeck, 52, opted for a stylish grey suit reminiscent of the TV series Miami Vice. Among the attendees were Lady (Lara) Somerleyton and James Tollemache, who famously saw Prince William dance in his boxers at a party celebrating his 21st birthday, before jumping into the moat at Helmingham Hall, his Suffolk estate.

Michael Buerk, the BBC broadcaster who inspired Live Aid with his report on the Ethiopian famine in 1984, expresses astonishment that many of the pop stars are still alive, saying, “I’m a bit taken aback some of them haven’t passed away already.” At the 40th anniversary performance of Just For One Day – The Live Aid Musical at London’s Shaftesbury Theatre, he shared this sentiment with me, implying that their heavy use of cocaine might have been a factor. However, it should be made clear that he was not referring to any drug use while working for the BBC.

King’s godson hits town in kilt

Despite the fact that Prince William may someday become King of Scotland, he has consistently chosen not to don a kilt, a traditionally Scottish attire, ever since his childhood.

However, over the weekend, Prince Constantine-Alexios, who is King Charles’s godson, took a liking to dressing in traditional Scottish garb during his visit to Edinburgh.

26-year-old Greek prince Constantine-Alexios was spotted with friends, among them Flynn Busson, the 27-year-old son of Australian supermodel Elle Macpherson. On this occasion, Constantine-Alexios opted for a red kilt and sporran, while Flynn preferred a yellow tartan baldric and matching pants.

Last year, I encountered a chilly response from anti-monarchy groups in the land they call Down Under when it came to King Charles. However, I must confess that my admiration for him has soared after hearing about artist Warwick Fuller, whose works will be exhibited at Buckingham Palace. As a self-proclaimed republican, I have to admit, I hold this monarch in high regard due to the way he carries himself.

Judy hopes for ace Sir Andy statue

Judy Murray is hoping that the proposed Wimbledon statue of her son, Sir Andy, will turn out superior to one she dislikes.

The newly-created statue honoring the Scotsman’s significant triumphs has been ordered by the All England Club. And his mother expresses: “I saw a statue of Andy Murray, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic in Shanghai; they’re known as the Terracotta Warriors… I strolled right past it without noticing, and someone pointed out, ‘You just walked past Andy’.

‘Upon reflection, it wasn’t at all similar to him. It was truly terrible. I have faith that Wimbledon will improve greatly.’

In a contrast to Logan Roy’s harsh parenting style on Succession, actor Brian Cox is compensating by collaborating extensively with his eldest son, Alan, in Brian’s directorial debut, Glenrothan. In this film, Alan, aged 54, will portray the character of Sandy, who is the father to Brian’s character. Reflecting on this choice, Cox, at 79 years old, admits, “It was strange to cast my own son as my father.
