Eddie Murphy’s Beverly Hills Cop Trilogy Is Leaving Netflix

I’ve always thought Eddie Murphy was just a phenomenal talent, truly one of the biggest stars of the ’80s. It was amazing to watch him move from making people laugh on stage to becoming a huge movie star, especially with films like 48 Hrs., Trading Places, and Coming to America. Everyone knew he was hilarious, but I was really surprised when he started doing action movies! It all kicked off with this one incredible action-comedy in 1984, and it ended up launching a whole franchise – it was a game changer!

Eddie Murphy starred as Axel Foley, a funny and street-smart detective from Detroit, in Beverly Hills Cop. The movie follows his investigation into the murder of a friend, which takes him to Beverly Hills, California. Beverly Hills Cop was a massive success, becoming the top-grossing film of 1984 and launching Eddie Murphy to international fame. It also led to two sequels that earned a combined $735 million around the world. If you want to watch all three Beverly Hills Cop movies, now is your last chance to stream them before they disappear.

According to What’s on Netflix, the Beverly Hills Cop movies – the original from 1984, Beverly Hills Cop II (1987), and Beverly Hills Cop III (1994) – will be removed from Netflix on December 1st. It’s not often all three films in the series are available on the same streaming service, making this a great chance for subscribers to watch all of Eddie Murphy’s Beverly Hills Cop trilogy. The first film earned $316 million worldwide, the second brought in $300 million, and the third made $119 million.

Everyone seems to love the original Beverly Hills Cop! It has an impressive 82% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes from both critics and viewers. A recent review, posted on October 30, 2025, called it “one of those rare action-comedies that doesn’t just hold up – it somehow gets better with time.”

Eddie Murphy Returns to Beverly Hills Cop After 30 Years

Eddie Murphy reprised his role as Axel Foley after a 30-year hiatus, but this time, instead of a movie in cinemas, the film appeared on Netflix. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F launched on July 3, 2024, bringing back Judge Reinhold and John Ashton alongside Murphy, and introducing new cast members like Taylour Paige, who plays Axel’s daughter, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as his new partner.

For decades, since the 1990s, filmmakers have been trying to create a fourth Beverly Hills Cop movie. This followed Eddie Murphy’s return to another one of his popular 1980s franchises with Coming 2 America on Prime Video. Critics gave that film a 67% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences enjoyed it a bit more, giving it a 75% score.

Netflix released a sequel to the popular comedy Happy Gilmore starring Adam Sandler earlier this year, continuing a trend of building on established franchises.

On December 1st, several popular movies will no longer be available on Netflix, including the entire Austin Powers series, Billy Madison, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Paddington, The Dark Tower, and The Equalizer.

You can watch all three Beverly Hills Cop movies – the original from 1984, Beverly Hills Cop II from 1987, and Beverly Hills Cop III – on Netflix, but they’ll be leaving the service on December 1st.
