Eddie Murphy talks having 10 kids in rare interview as he reveals one way they ALL take after him

Eddie Murphy, a father of ten children from five different relationships, recently opened up about the challenges and rewards of raising such a large family.

The beloved 64-year-old comedian is marking 50 years in show business with a candid new interview about his life and career.

He admitted he hadn’t intended to have so many children, explaining it simply ‘just happened,’ as reported by People magazine.

Eddie Murphy’s oldest child, Eric, is 36 years old. He was born to Paulette McNeely, with whom Murphy had a relationship in 1989.

He and his wife, Australian model Paige Butcher, have two young children: Izzy, age nine, and Max, age six. They began dating in 2012 and married last year.

He didn’t expect to have ten children, considering his own kids and the seven he took in later, but he now says it’s the greatest thing that ever happened to him. He believes that if you’re financially able to support a large family, you should have as many children as you can – it’s a lot of fun!

Murphy believes his children all share a key trait with him: they are good people. He’s proud that none of them are unkind and hopes he played a part in shaping their character.

During his 13-year marriage to Nicole Mitchell, he had five children: Bria (35), Myles (33), Shayne (31), Zola (25), and Bella (23).

Before her relationship with Mitchell, Murphy had a son named Christian, now 34, with Tamara Hood.

Murphy also has an 18-year-old transgender son, Angel, with Mel B, a singer from the Spice Girls. They had a brief relationship years ago.

At first, Eddie Murphy questioned whether he was the father of Mel B’s child. However, he later confirmed his paternity with a DNA test when the baby, Angel, was two months old.

When he took the test, he was dating Tracey Edmonds, who had previously been married to Babyface. She married Murphy on New Year’s Day in 2008, but their marriage ended just two weeks later.

The Murphy family grew this year as Eric married Jasmin Lawrence, the 29-year-old daughter of comedian Martin Lawrence.

Eddie Murphy, who has been very private lately, is breaking that pattern with a new Netflix documentary titled ‘Being Eddie’.

He admitted that before having children, he was entirely self-focused, but now his kids are the center of his world.

He explained in the documentary that his children are now his top priority. He described how life changes from being focused on yourself to being completely focused on your children after you become a parent.

He used to stay awake for incredibly long stretches, sometimes two days straight, before finally going to sleep. But since meeting his wife, he’s adopted a more regular routine. Now, they typically watch a couple of episodes of Seinfeld and then head to bed.

Before the movie came out, he openly shared details about his difficult upbringing. His parents, Charles and Lillian, divorced when he was three years old, and his father was later murdered by a girlfriend when he was eight.

The comedian, originally from Brooklyn, explained that the experience definitely had a big impact on him. He said trauma like that really shapes who we become.

Lillian received help from her next husband, Vernon Lynch, Sr., who Murphy praised for being a positive role model as a stepfather.

Murphy credits his upbringing, saying, “I’m thankful my mother found a wonderful, stable partner who instilled good values in me. That foundation was incredibly important and has had a significant impact on my life.”

The film features Eddie Murphy sharing heartfelt stories about the death of his brother, Charlie Murphy, a fellow comedian who passed away from leukemia in 2017 at age 57.

Eddie Murphy shared that his greatest strength is self-love. He’s always been his own biggest supporter, and he believes this self-acceptance is the foundation for every choice he makes.

Eddie Murphy explained that some people spend their entire lives before learning to love themselves, and he was one of those people at the beginning of his journey.
