Ed Sheeran recently shared that he declined an offer to perform a concert in space, explaining his decision was rooted in not wanting to endanger the possibility of his children being left without a father.
Singer James Blunt, 34, appeared on Wednesday’s episode of The Scott Mills Breakfast Show to talk about his new album, ‘Play,’ Lewis Capaldi’s comeback, and his upcoming tour which requires him to move to America.
You won’t believe what I heard! My friend Ed completely floored another friend, Scott, by mentioning he was asked to play a concert…in space! And get this – he turned it down! I know, right? It’s wild to think about opportunities like that popping up, and even wilder to politely say ‘no’!
During a conversation about Mariah Carey’s comments on not wanting to travel to space, Ed revealed that he had been offered a trip to space himself some time ago.
He admitted he’s scared of space travel in its current form. He wants to go when it’s as routine and safe as flying to France – something many people have already done and can easily book. He doesn’t want to be one of the first to risk it, as it’s still a dangerous undertaking.
I’d rather travel to places on Earth than go to space. Greenland, in particular, is at the top of my list of places I want to visit.

Ed mentioned they discussed the possibility of performing a concert in space, something many people likely received an email about, but he admitted the idea really frightens him.
Okay, so they *asked* him if he’d still do it, and honestly, his answer just made me love him even more! He was like, ‘No way, man, I’m out.’ And then he explained it – he has kids! He said he’s not going to risk not being there for them, not even for a world record! It was so real, so genuine. It wasn’t about the money or the fame, it was about being a dad. Seriously, what a legend. I get it completely – family first, always.
Ed Sheeran and his wife, Cherry Seaborn, married in 2019 and have two young daughters: four-year-old Lyra and two-year-old Jupiter.
Ed also mentioned that his friend Lewis Capaldi is finally performing again after taking two years off to prioritize his mental wellbeing.
I’ve been following Lewis for a while now, and while I haven’t caught him live on tour yet, we’ve been chatting quite a bit recently. I’m genuinely thrilled for him, and I truly believe taking some time for himself was the best decision he could have made – it’s fantastic for his wellbeing and health.
He’s really rediscovered his passion and is enjoying making music again, which wasn’t quite the case with his second album.
Ed recently shared a personal look into his marriage with Cherry, revealing they experience normal disagreements, during a fan event in London. This interview follows that rare glimpse into their relationship.
The singer and his childhood sweetheart are notoriously private about their relationship.

During a Spotify question-and-answer session on Tuesday, he emphasized the importance of honesty about the challenges and good times in any relationship.
Ed Sheeran delighted fans in London with a surprise performance on the street during a special event hosted by Spotify.
Ed Sheeran surprised people in Kings Cross with an unexpected performance of his new song, “Camera,” from his album Play.
Before the performance, attendees experienced a special listening session for Play at London’s Lightroom, a venue known for its immersive experiences.
Ed unexpectedly joined Nihal Arthanayake on stage for a question-and-answer session, which was met with excited and surprised applause from the audience.
Ed talked openly about making his album, sharing personal stories from the process, and also discussed his relationship with his wife, Cherry.
He explained that the challenges and joys of marriage fueled his songwriting, leading to both love songs and songs about disagreements. He admitted he writes about all aspects of his life, not just the positive ones, pointing to songs like ‘Perfect’ alongside those that explore more difficult realities.
‘That’s part of any relationship, and I think it’s important to be honest about it.’

He also reflected on how he is now more family and friends focused rather than all about work.
When Ed first started his career, he focused entirely on work and had no personal life. Now, he prioritizes his family, dedicating about 70% of his time to them and 30% to his music. He believes that finding balance isn’t just good for your well-being, it’s key to achieving real success.
Thinking about the time I’ve spent with family and friends, I feel grateful and remember truly enjoying every moment.
He also said one of his new songs is written for Cherry.
Cherry shared a story about Bono forgetting his wife’s birthday and then making it up to her with a song, which gave me the idea to do something similar as a gift. It’s a really special, private moment just for her.
