EastEnders star’s wife is rushed to hospital as she’s left unable to speak hours before family holiday

Ricky Champ’s wife, Sammy, had to be taken to the hospital suddenly because she couldn’t talk and her eyes were swollen, happening mere hours prior to their scheduled family vacation.

Sammy is parent to two kids with the actor famously known for his role as Stuart Highway in the beloved soap opera from 2018 to 2022, who has been grappling with a persistent health problem.

Before meeting her acting spouse at Disney in a matter of hours, she ended up with puffy eyes and had to seek immediate medical attention.

In an Instagram story, Sammy posted a picture showing her eyes looking red and swollen, along with lips that were similarly affected, due to her skin developing hives.

Next to her post, she wrote: ‘What is the single most unwelcome event to occur the day before flying to Disney when there are chores like shopping, packing, cleaning, or doing laundry? I’ll remind myself – waking up with swollen lips that you can’t speak from and eyes so swollen shut that you’re in the emergency room at 7 am.’

Every morning, I experience widespread itchy rashes or hives on my skin due to my gallstones and liver issues. These hives disappear by nightfall, only for them to reappear when I wake up the next day. It’s a persistent cycle that I live with daily.

‘Due to harmful substances, a procedure isn’t currently deemed urgent, but medical advice suggests waiting a year or more before the operation.’

Following a consultation with a healthcare professional, Sammy shared that her face had resumed its usual appearance and the swelling had subsided before their journey to France.

Ricky was one of five cast members to be written out of EastEnders in 2022.

In the narrative, Stuart found himself right in the heart of a tale about paternal post-natal depression, as he wrestled with establishing a connection with his newborn child, Roland.

After receiving a breast cancer diagnosis, he faced challenges with his psychological well-being. Additionally, he has been finding it difficult to adapt to the role of parenthood following years of trying with his spouse, Rainie (Tanya Franks), to conceive a child.

Ricky made his debut in Albert Square all the way back in 2018, and since then, he’s found himself immersed in a series of dramatic plot twists. One such twist was when he admitted to accidentally killing DI Steve Thompson (played by Philip Wright), only to later discover that Thompson was actually alive.

As a deeply passionate advocate for justice, I openly acknowledge my role as a relentless crusader against child predators – a calling born from the harrowing experiences of abuse in my own childhood.

The actor has expanded his career with roles such as Paul Parker in the BBC Three comedy series “Him & Her” and an appearance on “Game of Thrones” as Gatins.

Ricky filmed his final scenes as Stuart late in 2022.

‘In EastEnders I went from villain to hero to dad,’ he told Digital Spy at the time of his exit.

As someone who deeply immersed myself in a character’s journey for five fulfilling years, I can honestly say it was an extraordinary experience. Parting ways with him at the end was certainly strange and left me feeling a bit out of sorts, but it was a necessary step to let go and move on.

Ricky hasn’t ruled out a return to the soap someday, as he claimed that anything is possible.

I firmly believe that my character didn’t meet his end. Instead, he galloped away towards the setting sun. Somewhere out there, perhaps on the North Circular, he’s making a life with Rainie.
