EastEnders star looks completely unrecognisable as they land role in hugely popular Netflix series
As someone who has navigated the stormy seas of university applications and emotional turbulence during sixth form, I can certainly empathize with the feelings you’re experiencing right now. It’s all a lot, isn’t it? But remember, life is like a box of chocolates – you never know what you’re gonna get!
A well-known actor from the soap opera EastEnders is nearly untraceable following his casting in a highly-acclaimed Netflix production, undergoing a remarkable transformation.
In the recently launched Heartstopper series on a streaming platform, Lucy Speed seemed unrecognizable compared to her famous Walford character, Natalie Speed.
The actress, who was 48 years old, portrayed Natalie in the BBC One daytime drama for a span of 526 episodes from 1994 to 2004.
Apart from her other recognizable roles, she’s well-known for portraying DS Stevie Moss in the ITV police drama series The Bill between 2008 and 2010 as well.
She now plays healthcare worker Susan in series three of Heartstopper – a series which follows teens Charlie (Joe Locke) and Nick (Kit Connor) discovering that their unlikely friendship might be something more as they navigate school and young love.
In the fourth episode of the latest series, Lucy takes on the role of a professional providing emotional and eating disorder assistance.
On social media, Lucy posted some exclusive backstage photos from the cast and couldn’t stop expressing her excitement over being part of the show.
She penned on X: ‘The entire Heartstopper cast are the most divine bunch of humans.
In this enchanting story, having even a small part was an honor for me, and the way they treated my little one was kind and welcoming. It perfectly aligns with their reputation.
After the intense filming of seven-hour love scenes, Heartstopper’s characters Joe and Kit found themselves exhausted (knackered) and sporting persistent chin scabs due to excessive on-set kissing that failed to heal properly.
In a conversation with GQ Magazine, Joe (aged 21) and Kit (aged 20) talked about shooting season three and elevating their performances, along with the shock they felt when re-watching the series with their parents.
Speaking about the duration of the explicit scenes, Kit remarked, “We filmed those intimate sequences for approximately seven hours. Needless to say, we were exhausted afterward. During this time, Joe acquired a large wound on his chin.
Joe added his thoughts, commenting that it was quite unpleasant, as he and Kit realized they each had facial hair, causing discomfort from too much kissing, a classic example of beard rash.
In the scenes, they were kissing so frequently that the resulting wounds weren’t given a chance to heal properly; instead, they worsened.
In my perspective as a lifestyle advisor, I might phrase it like this: “I’ve found myself in a situation where I find it uncomfortable to watch intimate scenes, even those labeled as wholesome, when shared viewing involves family members, such as my mother. To maintain our bond and respect her interests, I suggested she could enjoy these moments privately.
He confessed: ‘I was watching the screener with my mum a few weeks ago, and I almost (stopped) on episode six, because I was like, “You just can’t watch this with your mum.” Even the wholesome sex scenes, I can’t do it.’
The actor said, ‘We settled down on the couch, but the tension was palpable, so I remarked, “Go ahead and watch that by yourself. After all, you have access to my Netflix. You know the password. Just enjoy it alone.”‘
Fans of Heartstopper had a strong emotional reaction, shedding tears and feeling nauseous, following the release of the show’s season three trailer on Netflix last week.
Viewers of Netflix were unable to suppress their eagerness upon the arrival of the latest production, as the trailer commenced with a scene featuring character Charlie Spring, portrayed by actor Joe, enjoying music on the sandy coastline.
Nick Nelson – portrayed by Kit – then came running over and playfully poked him in the face.
The clip then featured a voiceover mash-up of many of the show’s characters.
At the age of sixteen, everything seems overwhelming. With high school ending and college choices looming ahead, it’s all becoming quite a challenge.
Later on, the trailer hinted at a tender narrative about Charlie’s mental struggles. He appears to be pulling away from his friends and battling an eating disorder in the story.
Nick expresses his concerns to Charlie, admitting that he’s feeling quite anxious because he’s observed that things have been particularly stressful for him.
Viewers also caught a glimpse at Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey’s debut.
He portrays an Instagram-famous author, Jack Maddox.
Additionally, viewers got a brief peek at the real-life adaptation of the comic’s impactful shower scene that resonated emotionally.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I can’t help but share an exciting moment that has left many hearts fluttering: the long-awaited confession of love between Charlie and Nick. This heartfelt exchange is one that fans have been anxiously waiting for, and it’s truly a delight to witness this beautiful step in their relationship.
However, it was something else that had fans buzzing, as they pointed out the striking lack of Olivia Colman, who portrayed Nick’s mom in seasons 1 and 2, conspicuously missing from the scene.
As a devoted follower, I must clarify that despite the beach scene between Nick and a different maternal figure leaving some fans with doubts about her absence, it’s important to note that Olivia has not been replaced in the series.
It turns out that the lady sunbathing on the beach is actually Nick’s aunt. Earlier this year, Olivia informed Forbes that she was unable to accommodate filming schedule.
She informed the outlet, “I wasn’t able to carry out task number three due to time constraints. It feels regrettable.
According to Netflix, even though she won’t be in the third season, it doesn’t necessarily indicate a long-term replacement.
The streaming titan informed TopMob that there will be no actor replacing Olivia Colman in the forthcoming season.
Though Olivia made it clear she wouldn’t be part of the upcoming series, fans found themselves caught up in anticipation, expressing their enthusiasm for the show even if she was no longer in the cast.
One penned: ‘Wait, did Olivia Coleman get recast? Is the lady on the beach with Nick his new mom?’
‘I miss Olivia Colman’
‘THIS IS THE BEST TRAILER I’VE EVER SEEN’
‘Screaming, crying, throwing up’
‘this season is going to make me cry. So intense!’
‘THIS IS THE BEST TRAILER I’VE EVER SEEN’
‘Stop I’m not ready’
‘THE TRAILER ALREADY MADE ME CRY!!! WHYYYY’
All eight episodes of Heartstopper Season 3 are now available on Netflix.
