EastEnders star Clair Norris breaks silence on shock axing – and reveals she’s already filmed her ‘dramatic’ exit
Actress Clair Norris, known for her role on EastEnders, has shared insights into the heartfelt decision behind her exit from the lengthy BBC One series.
The star, 27, who joined the cast in 2017 as Bernie Taylor, is leaving the show after eight years.
After the Taylor family members all gradually left the show, producers were forced to write off her beloved character, a development which left Clair deeply saddened.
Despite the disappointment, Clair shared that she’s now looking forward to what the future holds.
In an interview with The Sun, she stated: “Of course, it’s disheartening, but considering I’ve portrayed that character for eight years, which is quite a stretch in a series, I must admit I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being part of this show.

she mentioned: ‘I was provided with a chance to gain practical knowledge, which I can now apply to various tasks I handle.’
Indeed, it was a melancholic yet fitting conclusion to have the Taylors depart. It somehow felt organic and appropriate. Now, my anticipation for what lies ahead is palpable.
Without revealing too much about her upcoming departure (which she recorded last month), Clair playfully suggested it could be quite dramatic and possibly bring back the character known as ‘bad Bernie’ to the spotlight.
Responding cryptically, Claire hinted that there’s a possibility, or maybe not, that Karen (portrayed by Lorraine Stanley) could reappear on screen.
Clair, joining her fellow EastEnders cast members in a celebration of their eight victories at the British Soap Awards, shared that she’s currently pondering over her future plans.
Yet, she mentioned her willingness to try new things, expressing enthusiasm about venturing into theatre or acting in a drama, finding it ‘enticing.’
Last month, it was confirmed that the star will exit the soap later this year.
In my dedication to staying informed, I’ve learned from reliable sources that whenever a soap opera appoints a fresh head, they naturally desire to introduce their unique touch – this isn’t about personal matters.

‘The writing has been on the wall for Bernie for some time so it wasn’t really a surprise to Clair.
She was the only Taylor left, marking the end of that era. Now, it’s appropriate to move forward and allow Claire to pursue new endeavors.
EastEnders has announced that character Clair will be departing from the show later in 2022. We wish her nothing but success and happiness in her future endeavors.
The BBC soap isn’t the only programme that Clair has starred in over the years.
Between October 2021 and March 2022, a period of about five months, she had the opportunity to dedicate herself to various other undertakings.
2022 saw her assuming the part of an inebriated character in the sitcom “Bloods,” and she also starred as Kerry in the drama series “Tell Me Everything” that very year.
The star has also played herself in a number of shows including The Weakest Link in 2021.
She also starred in her own Panorama documentary called Obesity: Who Cares if I’m Bigger? In 2022.
