EastEnders Drama: Martin Fowler’s Fate Unclear, Denise Fox’s Future Up to Fans

During Wednesday’s live, hour-long 40th anniversary episode of EastEnders, viewers found themselves at the very edge of anticipation as they waited to learn the outcome for Martin Fowler’s situation.

As a dedicated resident of Walford, I found myself among many others, including Martin (James Bye) and his former spouse Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner), who were unexpectedly caught up in the chaos following Tuesday evening’s devastating blast at The Queen Vic.

Despite several others managing to get out safely, Martin chose to stay indoors to assist Stacey, who was buried beneath debris.

However, after assisting her to regain her footing, they both discovered themselves in a predicament, uncertain about their escape route.

Towards the finale of the episode, just when it seemed they were about to revive their bond, a section from the rooftop gave way, crashing down as metal debris.

As a devoted admirer, I hurriedly shoved Stacey aside, only to find myself pinned under the heavy bar moments later. Agonizing cries escaped my lips as the screen transitioned to the closing credits.

Spectators swiftly turned to X to share their concerns about Martin, posting messages like: ‘This is giving me chills, it feels like my worst nightmare.’

‘Stacey and Martin, how about we take this conversation elsewhere?’ or ‘Let’s step outside, Stacey and Martin.’ The idea is to convey that the speakers should continue their discussion away from the current location.

Meanwhile, within the same episode, Denise Fox (played by Diane Parish) found herself in a dilemma regarding her choice of partner: Jack Branning (portrayed by Scott Maslen) or Ravi Gulati (acted by Aaron Thiara).

For the very first time, the audience will now be able to influence the plot, as a poll has been launched following the conclusion of the episode. The fans will collectively decide who Denise will ultimately pick among the men.

In the past few weeks, Denise has been struggling to choose between two men, a dilemma that’s become even more urgent following the fire event.

She’s had a lengthy past relationship with her ex-husband, Jack, however, it was uncovered that he had been unfaithful to her in the past with Stacey Slater. (Informal)

In another part, I was thrilled to see that Anita Dobson had made an unexpected comeback, reprising her legendary role as Angie Watts in our soap opera’s milestone anniversary episode.

In the initial episode of the show back in 1985, the actress, who was then 75 years old, portrayed the original landlady of the Queen Vic. She departed from the series after a span of three years.

To mark the 40th anniversary of the soap, she featured for a moment in the hour-long special, sharing a unique scene alongside her on-screen daughter Sharon.

As the character Sharon, portrayed by the talented Letitia Dean, I found myself in a desperate situation where I caught sight of a vision of my mother, Angie, pleading with me to cry out for aid.

In the touching moment, she stood before an injured Sharon, seemingly untouched by time, with her iconic brown curls and bold red lipstick still in place.

Angie expressed, “Hey sweetheart. I’ve been longing for you terribly. If only I could embrace you tightly and bestow upon you a warm, loving hug.

Afterwards, the iconic figure urged: ‘Speak up and call out for aid. Yes, that’s right, call out for help. That’s my brave one.’

Discussing Angie Watts’ comeback to Walford after such a long time, EastEnders producer Chris Clenshaw stated: “Without a doubt, Angie Watts is among EastEnders’ strongest and most recognized innkeepers.

From the get-go, Anita’s character was an immediate hit with viewers, significantly contributing to the popularity of EastEnders as we know it today. Moreover, her performances left a lasting impression on British television.

It was a delightful surprise when Anita agreed to be part of our cherished plans for our anniversary celebration, as she had always been at the top of our dream list. Thus, her affirmative response served as an exceptional birthday gift for us.
