EA’s College Football 25 used AI to get 11,000 players into the game

As a seasoned gamer with decades of virtual sports under my belt, I must say that EA Sports’ College Football 25 has truly taken the gaming world by storm. The integration of machine learning and AI-powered technology is nothing short of revolutionary, transforming the realm of sports simulation into something far more immersive and authentic than ever before.

The highly anticipated release of EA Sports’ College Football 25 signals the comeback of a cherished sports simulation series. As per Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson, this game wouldn’t be possible without the creative use of machine learning and advanced AI technology by our dedicated developers.

During a recent investor call on Tuesday, I proudly shared that the creation of 150 unique stadiums and over 11,000 player likenesses for College Football 25 was only possible thanks to Electronic Arts’ rich history as a technology pioneer. Our exceptionally passionate and gifted teams, leveraging AI and machine learning, played an integral role in this remarkable achievement.

Later on, I clarified my initial statements, explaining that while our game features player likenesses and stadiums, they aren’t solely created using AI and machine learning. Our exceptionally gifted artists lend their hand in refining and enhancing these digital representations, rather than going through the comprehensive process of developing entire head models from scratch.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve noticed that every year, Electronic Arts (EA) churns out anywhere between 500 to 1,000 digital stars for one of their sports games. But when it came to creating the roster for College Football 25, they had to step up their game big time, needing a whopping 11,000 unique players! Now that’s a challenge I’d love to see them tackle!

Without artificial intelligence, it wouldn’t have been possible for us to achieve the level of College Football production that we did, despite dedicating numerous years to its development, Wilson summarized.

Wilson stated, “The action taken was driven by our vision for the franchise’s growth in the future. It marked a significant milestone, as it was the first time in a decade that we embarked on such an endeavor. The quality of gameplay and visual clarity achieved was the culmination of numerous years of effort from our exceptional teams, enhanced and expedited by AI technology. Something this impressive would have been unattainable for us just two or three years back.”

In other words, Wilson, the CEO of EA, pointed out that the application of AI and machine learning won’t be confined only to College Football 25. Instead, he mentioned that the successor of this year’s EA Sports FC 24, which takes over from its FIFA franchise, will also incorporate AI technology.

After receiving global acclaim following the significant revamp of our brand, EA Sports FC 2025 promises to be a significant leap in quality, according to Wilson. The upcoming version, simply referred to as FC 2025, will showcase advanced innovation and deliver more authentic, realistic gameplay through improved AI and real-world soccer data, enhancing its tactical depth.

College Football 25 is available now on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
