As a lifelong fan of Earth, Wind & Fire, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of reverence and admiration for this legendary group that continues to defy time with their timeless music. Every September, I find myself transported back to the groovy 70s, swaying to the rhythm of their hit song that has become synonymous with the month itself – September.

Each September marks a time of joyous celebration for the legendary music band, Earth, Wind & Fire.

In 1978, the band debuted their popular track “September”. This tune remains among their most successful songs, and in 2018, it was selected for inclusion in the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry.

The band, having recently mourned the passing of drummer Fred White at age 67 last year, is launching a fresh Heart & Soul tour. This joint tour with Chicago extends into September 3rd, starting in Seattle.

In more recent times, they’ve shared insights about their song and all the opportunities it has brought forth – among them are numerous city keys bestowed upon them over the years.

In a casual manner, Philip Bailey expressed, “We’ve been given city keys on various occasions in September, and there have been other special events too. If someone doesn’t recognize Earth, Wind & Fire during the month of September, they should.”

In a conversation with People, Verdine White stated, “It’s our entire month,” while Ralph Johnson chimed in, “Absolutely, it’s ours.”

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I find myself often reflecting on the enduring charm of tunes that resonate with generations, such as “The 21st Night of September” by Earth, Wind & Fire. Contrary to popular belief, this date held no special meaning to the band prior to the song’s creation, according to their late songwriter Allee Willis.

In a 2004 NPR interview, 15 years prior to her passing in 2019 at the age of 74, Willis shared that out of all the dates they had discussed, the one that stood out the most for her was the 21st.

Together with ex-members Al McKay and Maurice White, Willis contributed to writing the song. Later on, Bailey acknowledged that they couldn’t have conceived it on their own.

He added that the song is even more popular now than it was nearly 50 years ago when it was released, stating, ‘We’re just very proud to be the recipients of that particular song.’

Regardless of the song’s immense popularity, the band maintains that they aren’t doing anything particularly extraordinary every year.

Bailey stated that they don’t actively organize any celebrations for that particular day as it’s globally recognized. Instead, they prefer to observe the festivities from the sidelines. He described it as a very “unforced” or “spontaneous” day.

For many years, the group consistently maintains that they never grow weary or bored whenever they take the stage.

“Johnson shared that we always enjoy ourselves every single evening. To clarify, this is not just an occasional thing; we perform every night with the aim of surpassing our previous achievements. Each member of our team takes this endeavor quite seriously,” (paraphrased statement).

It’s fortunate for us to possess the collection of songs we have, as it gives us the flexibility to explore various paths when organizing the show, he noted.

As your go-to lifestyle expert, I’m thrilled to share that the Earth, Wind & Fire’s Heart & Soul Tour is carrying on its groove! We’ve got exciting performances lined up in Inglewood, California on September 6, Palm Desert, California on September 7, and Holmdel, New Jersey on September 14. Don’t miss out on this funky, rhythmic ride through time with the legendary Earth, Wind & Fire and Chicago!

They have scheduled a total of eight performances, with the first seven taking place at The Venetian Theatre in Las Vegas from October 9 to October 19, followed by one appearance at ONE MusicFest in Atlanta on October 26.
