Eamonn Holmes’ son has shared that his father’s stroke came as a complete surprise and that the family is focusing on his recovery, taking it day by day.
The 66-year-old presenter was hospitalized last week after a health issue, causing them to miss their breakfast show appearance.
Declan, his 37-year-old son, released a statement on Sunday saying the family is very grateful for all the kind messages they’ve received.
It was a huge surprise, but Dad is recovering well considering everything, and we’re just focusing on getting through each day.
‘For now, we’re focused on him and keeping things steady around him.
We appreciate your understanding and would like some privacy as we deal with this difficult time and figure out the future. Your support means the world to my dad and all of us.
Eamonn was scheduled to be back on GB News Breakfast this Monday, where he usually co-hosts the show with Ellie Costello from Monday to Wednesday.
Alex Armstrong will step in to present in his absence this week.
A spokesperson for GB News announced that Eamonn Holmes became unwell last week and was later diagnosed with a stroke.
He’s doing well with his treatment right now. Eamonn has requested privacy while he recovers.
Everyone at GB News, along with his coworkers, is sending their best wishes for a quick recovery and hopes to see him back on the channel when he’s feeling better.
Angelos Frangopoulos, the CEO of GB News, stated that Eamonn is a valued part of their team and they are fully supporting him during his recovery.
Eamonn recently revealed some upsetting news about his health, and expressed frustration that the television industry seems to have lost interest in him now that he’s older and uses a wheelchair, which he feels is due to ageism.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve always admired people who overcome health challenges. This broadcaster, for example, had a tough time. He had both hips replaced back in 2016, which was a big surgery, but then in 2021, he faced even more issues – three slipped discs and a dislocated pelvis. It just goes to show you, staying active and prioritizing your well-being is so important, no matter your age!
He underwent significant spinal surgery the next year, and has experienced a number of health problems since then.
During an interview with Darren Jones, the Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister, last month, Eamonn appeared to be falling asleep on air.
As Ellie questioned Darren regarding the Mandelson files, Eamonn kept his eyes closed. Later in the conversation, he grabbed a pen and fumbled with the cap, having trouble getting it on.
Once the interview was over, Eamonn said to the audience, ‘Join us again tomorrow morning! Have a great day, no matter what you’re doing!’
Eamonn later clapped back at claims that he was ‘falling asleep’ live on air.
The celebrity clarified things while speaking at Hayley Palmer’s event, ‘An Audience With…’, at the Hippodrome Casino in London last month.
He explained that he was checking his microphone because they don’t have staff to manage the technical aspects of the show, like camera operation or monitoring audio.
‘Apparently I was sleeping? Whatever!’
