Eamonn Holmes’ Secret Struggle
Last week during Eamonn Holmes‘ GB News show, viewers became worried when he unexpectedly vanished from the broadcast about three hours into Tuesday morning, around 8:50 AM. In his absence, veteran presenter Eamonn was unable to rejoin, leaving Ellie Costello to host the breakfast show by herself.
It’s well known that his sudden exit might be due to his long-term health issues, as he’s had a double hip replacement and surgery for three herniated discs at the age of 65, which have noticeably affected his mobility.
He himself characterizes his persistent back pain as quite severe, and acknowledges that he is now unable to walk or care for himself.
Despite Eamonn’s steady perseverance amidst these difficulties, his coworkers at the broadcaster are starting to express genuine worry. They witness him arriving at GB News’s west London headquarters three times a week in the wee hours of the morning, looking so strained that he needs assistance getting on and off set.
Observers find it heartrending to see the celebrated figure enduring such distress, with one commenting: “He appears so sorrowful for most of the time. He seems to be suffering greatly, and it is truly difficult to witness.
Despite needing rest at home, he’s surprisingly up early to kick off the performance. At 65 years old, he appears quite delicate. It’s hard not to empathize with his situation.
‘He’s always pushed or rolled around – not once have I seen him walk. He appears in the studio and on set that way. It gets the job done, but he seems very uneasy. Eventually, he’s wheeled away, and one can only hope he has a long, peaceful rest at home.’
Then, of course, he disappeared midway through a broadcast and failed to return.
Last week, the main topic on GB News was Eamonn’s unexpected absence, the insider mentioned. He’s deeply cherished by the team – yet, one can’t help but question how much more he can continue in this role.
Despite having spent 45 years in the industry, Eamonn still finds the work hours demanding. He recently took up a position at the news channel in January 2022, shortly following his departure from ITV’s This Morning, where he presented their morning show.
6am is when Eamonn and Ellie appear on-air, so Eamonn needs to wake up by 4:30 am. He then gets a ride for the 13-mile trip from his apartment in Kingston, southwest London to the studios in Paddington. Upon arrival, he gets his makeup done while catching up on the day’s news before the cameras begin recording.
He’s certainly accustomed to mornings, having reigned supreme in early-morning broadcasting for a dozen years. He was the undisputed monarch of breakfast television while hosting ITV’s morning program GMTV, sharing duties with Anthea Turner initially and later Fiona Phillips.

Following a departure in 2005, he spent an additional 11 years working the early shift at Sky, presenting their Sunrise program from 5am to 9:30am. Later on, he teamed up with his current estranged wife, Ruth Langsford, to host This Morning for a span of 15 years.
Eamonn’s friends say he seems to enjoy his work, but under the current conditions, they wish he could be doing something else. While his enthusiasm for the job is strong, it isn’t the sole factor keeping him in the industry. The celebrity has faced financial struggles and reportedly feels like his life has been negatively impacted by a prolonged dispute with the tax authorities.
The argument revolved around his argument that he operated as an independent contractor during his tenure at ITV, receiving payments through his own company, thereby reducing his tax liability. However, HMRC determined that he was essentially a permanent employee – and allegedly demanded he settle £250,000. Despite two appeals and significant legal expenses, he had to sell his home in Belfast to cover some of the costs.
It appears the dispute continues to cause trouble, leaving scars that are nearly impossible to heal. Interestingly, Eamonn admits the government has left him with virtually nothing. Consequently, his need to generate income persists, even in light of any health issues he might face.
Originally, he along with his co-presenter at GB News, Paul Coyte, had arranged for a nationwide live theater performance. However, this tour was cancelled about a month ago due to allegations of weak ticket demand.
People who are familiar with Eamonn often express that he experienced ‘a sense of relief’ because there was concern that a prolonged tour might have had a significant negative impact on him.
Without letting anything stand in my way, Eamonn has declared that he and Coyte will be hosting a podcast where they conduct conversations with big-name celebrities. A close friend of his mentioned, “Eamonn is a hard worker, and it’s likely he’d be putting in this much effort only because of his financial circumstances.
Despite remaining active, Eamonn’s later years in television may not live up to what fans initially anticipated. At one point, his popularity among the British public was so high that tabloids like Hello! experienced significant boosts in sales whenever he graced their cover pages.
At the same time, Eamonn was just as lively and spirited as Ruth, making them both the heart and essence of any gathering. I distinctly remember spotting this dynamic duo at a book launch for their ITV comrade, Ross King, which took place at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in London’s Knightsbridge.
The pair were lively, conversational, and frequently laughing while enjoying copious amounts of champagne. Eamonn exuded an effortless Northern Irish charisma and humor that made him delightful company, although he would admit himself that not everyone likes him (such as Anthea Turner following his ‘Princess Tippytoes’ nickname, and the ITV bosses who dismissed him). However, those who are familiar with him describe him as remarkably loyal.

Together, they (he and Ruth) presented high-quality content, which led to numerous wealthy opportunities to promote various products. This enabled them to enjoy a luxurious lifestyle in their £3.2 million home situated in Weybridge, Surrey.
Since their separation in May, following 14 years of matrimony and 27 years together, Eamonn has found life to be significantly more challenging. Considering all the other circumstances, it’s not surprising that this time has been particularly tough on him.
The home Ruth currently resides in may require selling, and sources claim the financial aspect of the divorce is extraordinarily intricate. A friend remarks that he believed they would stay together for eternity. In his late sixties, going through a divorce can be particularly disruptive, as it upends everything.
He discovered one source of happiness in a fresh relationship with Katie Alexander, a 43-year-old therapist, whom he connected with online. She’s been spotted accompanying him at several entertainment gatherings and on a lavish Mediterranean voyage – a complimentary trip that came as part of his partnership with travel company Not Just Travel.
Although it’s uncertain if they cohabit, Eamonn cherishes her presence deeply. The intriguing query among his peers revolves around whether a girlfriend who is two decades younger than him can consistently bring joy to his countenance.
One mentioned that Eamonn has a fondness for being around women, specifically Katie. He adores her company and finds joy in their activities together, despite the challenges posed by Eamonn’s mobility issues. Despite these difficulties, he makes an effort to appreciate life, with Katie by his side, though it remains a challenge for him.
