Eamonn Holmes, 66, is seen laughing and smiling with girlfriend Katie Alexander, 44, just days before his terrifying stroke

Just days before being hospitalized after a stroke, Eamonn Holmes was seen smiling and laughing in photos.

The 66-year-old television presenter was taken to the hospital by ambulance earlier this week and is currently recovering in a hospital ward, it was reported on Saturday.

Just hours before suffering a stroke, Eamonn appeared healthy and was seen happily laughing with his girlfriend, Katie Alexander, who is 44 years old.

Photos on social media show the couple seemed happy and relaxed, toasting each other at an Easter celebration.

Eamonn was seated in his wheelchair, bundled up against the cold in a navy coat, matching trousers, and a cap.

He and Katie had dinner with friends, one of whom was Lotan Carter, who used to be on TV but now works as a fitness coach.

Eamonn was scheduled to be back on his GB News morning show on Monday, but he will now be off air for the near future.

Katie shared her feelings on social media Friday night, writing about a difficult week filled with prayer and a visit to church where she sought guidance.

Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford split in 2024 after being married for 14 years and are now getting divorced.

They share a son, Jack, who is 24.

A spokesperson for GB News announced that Eamonn Holmes became ill last week and was later diagnosed with a stroke.

‘He is currently responding well to treatment.

‘Eamonn has asked for privacy as he focuses on getting better.

Everyone at GB News, along with his coworkers, hopes he gets well soon and is eager to have him back on the channel when he’s feeling up to it.

Angelos Frangopoulos, the CEO of GB News, stated that Eamonn is a valued part of the team and they are fully supporting him during his recovery.

Eamonn recently revealed some upsetting news about his health, and expressed frustration that the television industry seems to have lost interest in him now that he’s older and uses a wheelchair, which he feels is due to ageism.

In 2016, the broadcaster had both hips replaced. However, in 2021, he experienced problems with his back, including three slipped discs and a dislocated pelvis.

He underwent significant spinal surgery the next year and has experienced a number of health problems since then.

During an interview with Darren Jones, the Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister, last month, Eamonn appeared to be falling asleep on air.

I noticed something interesting while Ellie was questioning Darren about those Mandelson files. Eamonn seemed completely disengaged, actually closing his eyes for a bit. Then, as the conversation continued, he absentmindedly started fiddling with a pen, and surprisingly, he had a real struggle just getting the cap back on. It was a little detail, but it struck me as a sign of his distraction.

At the end of the interview, Eamonn said to the audience, ‘Join us again tomorrow morning! Enjoy your day, no matter what you’re doing!’

Eamonn later clapped back at claims that he was ‘falling asleep’ live on air.

The celebrity clarified things while appearing at Hayley Palmer’s ‘An Audience With…’ event at the Hippodrome Casino in London last month.

He explained that he was checking his microphone because they don’t have staff to help with technical issues like that – no floor managers or camera operators are available.

‘Apparently I was sleeping? Whatever!’
