EA Sports FC 25's New FC IQ and Rush Mode Could Be the Most Significant Changes For the Series in Ages - Preview Part 2

As a dedicated football gaming enthusiast with years of experience under my belt, I’ve grown accustomed to EA Sports’ annual FIFA releases. However, this year’s EA Sports FC 25 promises something truly exciting and innovative: FC IQ and the new Rush mode.

Instead of “Having ditched the FIFA name last year, EA held back from major overhauls for EA Sports FC 24, but for FC 25, developer EA Vancouver is planning significant updates, starting with the implementation of ‘FC IQ’. Described as a new core component for the FC franchise, FC IQ intends to revolutionize the way tactics and player placement function in FC 25, while Frostbite remains the engine powering the game. As Producer Thomas Caleffi put it, FC IQ represents “the most substantial shift in tactics [in the series] in over a decade,” poised to disrupt strategies across all game modes.” (For details on upcoming features for Career, Clubs, and Ultimate Team, check out Part 1 here).

In simpler terms, FC IQ represents a significant transformation of strategies, integrating authentic data from the real world and advanced AI technology, to govern how various tactics function collectively. Now, most players possess multiple roles, as demonstrated by Son who can assume an aggressive forward role or a more straightforward supporting role. Key players offer Role+ or Role++ alternatives, providing you with full authority over which player performs what duties and their position within your lineup, allowing you to tap into your inner football manager.

If you prefer not to focus on intricate details, you can create formations based on desired tactics in FC 25, and the game will suggest modifications such as tactical adjustments or substitutions. The commentary in the game will make remarks about any changes made, adding a nice feature. Importantly, FC IQ offers choices for those who enjoy delving into specifics, with 52 new player roles and 31 unique roles alongside existing PlayStyles and player traits.

You can save up to five custom formations and tactical setups in FC IQ. These can be modified, renamed, copied, removed, and even shared with others. FC IQ encompasses all aspects of EA Sports FC 25, including the newly introduced 5-a-side Rush mode. Unlike Volta Football, which was previously a staple, Rush prioritizes the traditional football experience, maintaining the fundamental balance and mechanics of 11v11 matches.

As a gamer, I’d describe Rush as an exciting 4vs4 experience meant for bonding with friends in a more intimate setting. The action takes place on a compact pitch inside a Nike stadium, complete with a roof modeled after the company’s iconic swoosh logo. Unlike regular matches, the offside rule only applies within the attacking third instead of the attacking half. Four human players per team are accompanied by an AI goalkeeper, and penalties result in one-on-one situations. Matches begin with a frenzied scramble for the ball as it’s launched into the center, leading to quick back-and-forth gameplay that lasts just eight minutes.

Experiencing the beta version of Rush mode firsthand, I was impressed by its speed and ease of use – an ideal choice for inviting friends over for some casual Friday night gaming sessions. Rush can be enjoyed in Kick Off, Manager Career, Clubs, and Ultimate Team. In Ultimate Team, you have the option to team up with your friends or join a randomly selected group of four players for a thrilling 4vs4 confrontation, where you get to control your best player. Although distinct from Volta, Rush offers an enjoyable alternative, delivering a condensed and engaging football experience.

In Ultimate Team, playing Rush brings weekly objectives with thrilling incentives. These rewards are earned through accumulating Rush Points, which can then be used to acquire various items. Furthermore, Ultimate Team is set to cater to community feedback by introducing additional storage for duplicate items and expanding the possibilities of player Evolutions. This means you’ll have more opportunities to customize your favorite evolved Ultimate Team players with unique backgrounds, frames, animations like fireworks, and custom sound effects.

As a dedicated fan of Football Ultimate Team (FUT), I’m thrilled to share that EA has announced even more Evolutions set to release this year. And here’s the best part: every draw you make contributes to your progress. That’s right, your hard work and dedication will continue to pay off!

EA is releasing more football content this year with EA Sports FC 25, and based on the improvements and new features like FC IQ and Rush, it seems worth the investment. With the success of previous FIFA games from EA, it’s expected that EA Sports FC 25 will sell well again. Although I’ve never bought or heard of a “hot cake,” the idea is that something will be in high demand and sell quickly.
