‘E! News’ is shutting down after more than three decades

Instead of saying “E! News,” a popular nightly pop culture show on the E! Entertainment Television cable network, is being discontinued, you could rephrase it as: The nightly pop culture show “E! News” that shaped E! Entertainment Television will no longer air.

On Thursday, staff at “E! News” were told that their show is set to record its last episode on September 25th. However, Comcast’s news division intends to keep delivering news content online, where they maintain a strong and active presence.

The team was informed that E! news viewers prefer getting updates on entertainment news throughout the day via social media, rather than tuning in at 11 p.m. Eastern for a nightly show on regular TV. As a result of this change, approximately 20 positions will be cut.

The network plans to keep broadcasting real-time updates from star-studded events like the Oscars, Golden Globes, and the People’s Choice Awards on its channel.

The alterations in anchors are causing a significant disturbance to one of the remaining customary behaviors associated with conventional television viewing. Notably, two out of the three network evening news programs are undergoing substantial modifications.

The planned shift of the “E! News” to Versant, a subsidiary company also housing channels like MSNBC, CNBC, and Golf Channel owned by Comcast, was announced prior to the actual move.

Instead of saying that, you could rephrase it like this: Comcast is transferring most of its cable channels (excluding Bravo) to Versant in an effort to keep their more established businesses from negatively impacting the company’s share price.

1991 saw the debut of “E! News,” a profitable venture for the network due to its unique focus on live entertainment and pop culture coverage, as there were limited TV options for such content at the time. Ryan Seacrest served as co-host from 2006 to 2015. The program was discontinued in 2020 but made a comeback in 2022.

The current hosts of the show are Keltie Knight and Justin Sylvester. Some members of the cast may be given an opportunity to transition to Versant.
