Dylan O’Brien sends a message to the culprits who leaked crucial sex scene from his new film Twinless

Dylan O’Brien addressed those responsible for the unauthorized release of clips, including a pivotal sex scene, from his upcoming movie “Twinless.

The dispute arose earlier in the year when clips from the film were posted online, leading Sundance to take down the movie from their virtual screening platform.

The stars O’Brien, aged 34, and James Sweeney, aged 35, formed an unusual bond as they mourned the loss of their respective twin brothers. A private, potentially explicit scene between them, which was inadvertently leaked, served as a surprise twist in the unfolding dramedy.

In approximately one day, the movie will hit theaters, and the cast members have expressed their sentiments regarding the recent controversy.

At the film’s premiere, according to The Hollywood Reporter, O’Brien expressed, “That wasn’t great. It’s wonderful to finally see the movie released – yet, please cease such actions, as they have an impact on us.

Likewise, Sweeney, both writer and director of the movie, found the piracy to be disheartening and uneasy.

He expressed his displeasure about unauthorized sharing of content online before its official release, stating that it wasn’t his desired method for introducing the film.

He mentioned that it’s likely beneficial because it sparks curiosity, but from his perspective, he doesn’t support piracy.”

This paraphrase keeps the original meaning but uses simpler and more conversational language.

After its debut at the Sundance Film Festival this year, Twinless garnered praise, clinching the Audience Award in the U.S. Dramatic category. Moreover, its lead actor, O’Brien, was recognized with the U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Exceptional Acting.

But the joy was soured after the film became the center of a leaking scandal.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’d like to share an update about Sundance Film Festival. During the pandemic, they started streaming their films online for viewers’ convenience. However, recently, they chose to remove a particular movie from their platform due to a related incident.

Due to copyright issues discovered on several social media sites, the movie ‘Twinless’ has been taken off the Sundance Film Festival’s online platform in collaboration with its creators. Regrettably, this means that those who purchased tickets to view the film online can no longer access it.

Apologies for any inconvenience or disappointment this might’ve caused. Yet, it’s a crucial aspect of our mission to support independent filmmakers that we prioritize their ability to safeguard the art they produce, both today and in the years to come.

We regard copyright violations as a significant matter and are committed to working closely with both local, state, and national authorities in addressing any instances of piracy.

It’s not the first time the pair have addressed the controversy.

In that situation, it seems Dylan received more recognition compared to me. [Smiles.] I hardly ever got mentioned half the time.

Dylan seemed to get more credit than me in that instance. I wasn’t even mentioned very often. (Smiling)

While disappointing, they acknowledged it did raise awareness about their project.

Speaking on behalf of James, he expressed a multitude of emotions regarding the topic that resonated with my empathy. Though I may not be frequently online, it’s clear this situation brings me sorrow. Many individuals have conveyed sentiments such as, “I hoped to catch your film at Sundance, but it was withdrawn.” This is what O’Brien expressed.

He expressed his frustration, saying, “It would be great if more people could grasp this: entering the movie without any prior knowledge adds significantly to its impact, including preserving the story’s surprise elements and enjoying it to the fullest. It was challenging to remain optimistic, but perhaps this will at least steer audiences towards our film.

‘It creates a liminal awareness,’ Sweeney said.

Twinless will be released on September 5.
