DWCS Week 1 weigh-in results

As a lifelong UFC enthusiast who has witnessed countless fights and seen dreams both shattered and fulfilled within the Octagon, I eagerly anticipate the start of the eighth season of Dana White’s Contender Series. The opportunity to step into the UFC APEX and compete for a coveted contract is a dream come true for these 10 hopeful fighters.

In August this year, the UFC calendar is filled with numerous exciting events, including the kickoff of Dana White’s Contender Series Season 8. This series was initiated in 2017 and offers a platform for aspiring fighters worldwide, aiming to secure a contract with the UFC. The show takes place in Las Vegas, the fight mecca, enhancing the prospects’ chances of joining the top-tier promotion. Spanning from August 13 to October 15, this season will consist of ten episodes.

In the first episode airing on Tuesday, August 13, there will be five bouts from various weight divisions: middleweight, welterweight, light heavyweight, featherweight, and flyweight. The event promises an exciting lineup with these fights. Typically, the victors of each match may receive a UFC contract by the end of the evening. These 10 aspiring fighters aim to become part of the UFC family as they enter the Octagon at the UFC APEX.

Tonight’s main fight will be the highlight of the event. Hailing from Maryland, Mansur Abdul-Malik, with an unblemished record in his five professional bouts since debuting in 2021, will face off against Wisconsin’s Wes Schultz, who boasts a record of six wins and one loss. Interestingly enough, they both made their pro debut on the same date (October 23, 2021) and will now meet again at DWCS Week 1 for an opportunity to advance in the top promotion.

As a gamer, I’m pumped about the penultimate bout coming up from this deck! Hailing from Shaanxi, China, Meng Ding, who stands at 34 wins and eight losses, is aiming to extend his current two-fight winning streak and potentially join the UFC. His opponent will be none other than Rami Hamed, boasting a record of 12 wins and three losses, also on a four-fight winning streak. Both these fighters have a knack for delivering knockout blows decisively in their matches, so we might witness another spectacular finish here!

In the light heavyweight division, there are two eager combatants aiming for a potential contract. One is Mikheil Sazhiniani from Tiblisi, Georgia, determined to maintain his six-bout winning streak and enhance his current 13-win, 2-loss record. His rival will be Bruno Lopez, hailing from Sao Paulo, Brazil, who had an opportunity for a UFC contract during season seven of the Contender Series but missed out on it.

In addition, a lightweight fight is scheduled as well. Arizona’s Jose Delgado enters the octagon boasting a 7-1 victory tally. Ernie Juarez from California, a competitor of Urijah Faber’s A1 Combat, aims to extend his unbeaten 8-0 record with a UFC contract in this match.

Kicking off the event on the card is a flyweight match that promises to be captivating. Born in Vietnam but fighting now from Arizona, An Tuan Ho boasts an impressive six-win, zero-loss record. His opponent, Lone’er Kavanagh, hails from England and mirrors his perfect six-win streak. This fight marks the potential end of one fighter’s undefeated run.

Prior to the 10 combatants entering the Octagon, they must first demonstrate their worth in a crucial area – on the scales. Here are the verified weight measurements for Dana White’s Contender Series during its initial week.
