Dwayne Johnson and Leonardo DiCaprio team up for ‘Goodfellas meets The Departed’ crime drama
Dwayne Johnson and Leonardo DiCaprio are set to team up for a new crime drama.
In my enthusiasm, I’d like to share with you an upcoming movie, a gripping tale inspired by true events. From my perspective as a passionate fan, it follows the journey of an ambitious mob boss aiming for supremacy in the criminal underworld of Hawaii. As reported by Deadline, this ruthless figure is based on a real-life character and the film will delve into the brutal power struggle that unfolded.
The project, akin to a blend of ‘Goodfellas’ and ‘The Departed’, is set to be expertly guided by Martin Scorsese, with Nick Bilton contributing as the screenwriter.
In the 1960s and 70s, the captivating and influential mob leader will be depicted as he expanded his criminal dominion, which became formidable, over the Hawaiian island archipelago.
Yet, this narrative will unveil an untold account of his battle to safeguard his ancestral territory, a conflict that sparked the fierce war against major mainland companies and rival factions.
Johnson, DiCaprio, and Emily Blunt have been confirmed for a joint project, with specifics about their characters still under wraps. In addition to acting, they’ll be involved in production alongside Scorsese, Bilton, Dany Garcia, Lisa Frechette, and Rick Yorn.
Previously, Johnson and Blunt collaborated on Disney’s “Jungle Cruise” and an upcoming project titled “Smashing Machine.” It’s said that this team pitched the concept for a mob film to Scorsese and DiCaprio. Later, they invited Bilton to script the narrative based on their idea.
As a fervent admirer, I can’t help but marvel at the extraordinary partnership between DiCaprio and Scorsese. Their collaborative efforts have given us masterpieces such as the critically praised “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “The Aviator,” “The Departed,” “Gangs of New York,” and, most recently, “The Wolf of Wall Street.
The duo have also been working on the real-life movie based on a serial killer, titled “The Devil in the White City“. This production has recently been acquired by 20th Century Studios. Notably, both celebrities will be involved in producing this much-anticipated project; DiCaprio will take on the acting role while Scorsese will direct it.
