Duster: The Must-Watch Crime Drama with a 92% Rotten Tomatoes Score!

Ever since the debut of “Duster” on HBO Max this month, I’ve been thoroughly captivated by it. Two episodes in, and the series is keeping a nearly flawless rating among critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

At present, Duster boasts an impressive approval rating of 92%, earning the label “Certified Fresh.” Its audience appreciation is equally strong, standing at 81%. Despite some criticized flaws in the new series, which is a crime drama set in the early ’70s, most critics find it enjoyable, often referring to it as a delightful throwback to movies from that era.

According to critic Matt Roush, the show named “Duster” seamlessly switches from tense, suspenseful moments to light-hearted comedy, all while maintaining a distinctly retro 1970s vibe. Get ready for an exhilarating ride!

According to critic Kambole Campbell, the main strength of the show lies in its lead actors. He stated, “The vibrant ’70s fashion styles hold it together, but Duster rises or falls on the charm of its cast. As a result, it excels whenever Josh Holloway and Keith David are steering its weekly escapades.

In addition to its captivating design elements, Lyvie Scott pointed out that “Duster” is far more than just that. It’s a crime story that seemed to have been misplaced through time. Essentially, it’s a simmering tale of revenge wrapped within an unconventional friendship narrative.

Michael Clark referred to the series as an abundant collection of songs from early ’70s rock, soul, and folk music, interspersed with hints of citizens band radios, vending machines selling cigarettes, 8-track tapes, mini Hot Wheels toys, and gas station signs advertising $0.34 per gallon fuel.

In the creation of this show, J.J. Abrams played a significant part, not only as one of its co-creators but also as a cast member in earlier years. This brings together the team from ‘Lost’ on ‘Duster’, since Josh Holloway, who was previously part of ‘Lost’, has had a recurring role in more recent times on ‘Yellowstone’. Apart from Abrams, LaToya Morgan also contributed to the series’ co-creation. Steph Green and Rachel Rusch Rich are fellow executive producers along with them.

Besides Holloway, the series additionally features Rachel Hilson, Keith David, Sydney Elisabeth, Greg Grunberg, Camille Guaty, Asivak Koostachin, Adriana Aluna Martinez, and Benjamin Charles Watson as regular cast members. Patrick Warburton and Adrienne Barbeau make special appearances on the show.

The movie “Duster” takes place in the Southwest in 1972. It follows the journey of the FBI’s first African American female agent, Hilson, as she endeavors to capture a notorious criminal mastermind, David. With the assistance of an adept getaway driver named Holloway, she embarks on this mission.

Josh Holloway Was Quick to Reunite With J.J. Abrams

Reminiscing about receiving the invitation to be part of the show, Holloway shared with THR that Abrams unexpectedly called and immediately asked, “Got a minute?” I replied, “I think I can spare a minute, J.J. Abrams!” He began explaining this series, and I was so taken aback by what he said next that I struggled to focus on anything else. He mentioned, “You’re the wheel man for the mafia in 1972,” and from that point, it was as if nothing else he said mattered. It brought back memories of the iconic moment in Jerry Maguire when he says, “You had me at ‘hello.’

Duster is streaming on HBO Max.
