Dune: Prophecy stars Sarah-Sofie Boussnina and Josh Heuston tease close brother-sister relationship

As a cinephile with a penchant for science fiction and a soft spot for intricate narratives, I am beyond excited about HBO’s new spinoff series, “Dune: Prophecy”. Having grown up on the original Dune novels by Frank Herbert, I can attest to the richness of the universe he created, and the Bene Gesserit sisterhood has always been one of my favorite aspects. So, diving deeper into their lore is a thrilling prospect indeed!

Prepare yourself for a return to the universe of Dune! HBO’s upcoming spinoff series, titled Dune: Prophecy, will transport you back in time by 10,000 years before the events depicted in the 2021 film. Developed by Alison Schapker (Westworld) and Diane Ademu-John (Medium), this new show delves into the origins of the powerful Bene Gesserit sisterhood, while focusing on Valya and Tula Harkonnen as they face various dangers.

In the captivating lineup of “Dune: Prophecy”, you’ll find Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Mark Strong, Jodhi May, along with some well-known names, as well as fresh talents like Chloe Lea and Sarah-Sofie Boussnina. Having watched the first two episodes of this prequel, I’m eager to share that it promises to be a compelling watch. A key aspect I find intriguing is the enigmatic sisterhood that has always fascinated me in the “Dune” series, and this opportunity to delve deeper into their history is exhilarating. To top it off, the acting, scriptwriting, cinematography, and costume design are all of high quality.

Dune: Prophecy’s Sarah-Sofie Boussnina and Josh Heuston interview

Recently, I had the delightful opportunity to reconnect with several cast members from the “Dune: Prophecy” series at New York Comic Con. Among them were Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, portraying Princess Ynez, and Josh Heuston as Constantine. These two are half-siblings who share the role of royalty as children of Emperor Javicco Corrino, and they have quite a responsibility on their shoulders compared to their peers.

In a spoiler-free conversation, the actors broke down the pressures their characters face as well as how their bond as brother and sister gets them through it. When asked how their characters keep the balance of fulfilling their duty and engaging in other activities, Boussnina shared:

I think for Ynez, you know, she does want to live up to her decision and she wants to be the future ruler but she also does things her way. And I think, you know, for her, it’s like there’s the life of the palace and the duties and all of that, and then, you know, there’s life.

Boussnina said, ‘She and her brother are quite close, for he’s among the very few who truly understand her and whom she completely confides in.’ She trusts him because he shares her experiences and knows well what her life is like.” To which Heuston replied, “It’s a bond born out of shared hardships.

According to Heuston, Constantine doesn’t manage everything quite as effectively as his sister. He thinks that while Constantine strives to make good choices, his personal weaknesses often misguide him. The actor implies that Constantine is grappling with inner demons, such as his addictions at the start of the series, but hints at a future storyline for him.

He ends up in a very, very different place towards the end of it. And I think he is continuously trying to better himself and, I guess, become the leader that his father would want him to be, and he’s continuously working on that.

In the movie “Dune: Prophecy,” you’ll encounter an intriguing group of characters, each driven by their distinct goals. It’s important to remember that none of them should be underestimated. For a deeper dive into the prequel storyline, watch the trailer available below:
