Dune: Prophecy episode 5 review: Tula makes a shocking discovery that could test her loyalty to Valya
As a seasoned gamer and binge-watcher of sci-fi series, I find myself both enthralled and slightly frustrated by the rapid-fire pace of Dune: Prophecy. The show has managed to keep me hooked with its intricate web of power struggles, betrayals, and unexpected alliances, but the way plot points are introduced and resolved in a single episode leaves me yearning for more depth and development.
The temperature rises significantly in episode five of “Dune: Prophecy” when the emperor takes action to strengthen his precarious standing.
Following the release of Desmond Hart in the last episode and disclosing his abilities to the council, Javicco now takes action to strengthen his position as emperor. He initiates the formation of an elite military unit that appears to be the precursor of the renowned Sardaukar, a force significant in the films. Commanding this army is Hart, who promptly sets out to locate and neutralize any threats to the emperor’s rule. Hanno, working for Valya, provides him with some crucial information, guiding him towards the nightclub where the rebels gather.
Meanwhile, under Valya’s instructions, Constantine’s mother, Francesca, goes back to Salusa Secundus. Once there, she takes steps aimed at securing her son a powerful role within the Imperium, with the ultimate goal of making him commander of the new fighter fleet. This ambition comes to fruition when Constantine uncovers proof of Kieran’s plan to kill the emperor, which in turn earns him his father’s respect and trust.
This rapid turn of events in the show, though exciting, brings into focus one significant issue: the speed at which things unfold without proper build-up. For instance, within a single hour-long episode, we’re introduced to Francesca, her schemes against Constantine, her influence over Javicco, and its resolution – events that, surprisingly, were never hinted at as major plot points before, giving the impression of extreme convenience.
Surely, part of the issue lies in the fact that the series consists of just six episodes instead of ten or twelve, which might have provided a more leisurely pace for the storyline. Nevertheless, it appears as though the narrative is hurrying towards its conclusion, jamming all the elements together at the last moment, regardless of whether they harmonize or not. This omits the opportunity for extended plotting and power struggles that are crucial to this type of show to truly take off.
Beyond the central focus, another key aspect of this episode revolves around Lila experiencing possession by Mother Raquella following a near-death experience during the Agony. It remains uncertain whether this event will bear fruit or if it serves as a means for the Sisterhood to gather intel on the danger that claimed Kasha’s life. Lila appeared to be in good health at the episode’s conclusion, which suggests she may have made a full recovery.
It appears that Desmond Hart is Tula’s son and has dual lineage, being a member of both the Harkonnens and Atreides clans. This unique heritage introduces an additional layer of complexity to the narrative, as Tula may not be willing to take actions against him following their past history with Lila. As such, there’s a question about whether she might side against Valya if the situation arises.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation. With only one episode left, it feels like the clock is ticking down on this incredible journey. It’s time for all those intricate storylines to come together in a beautiful resolution that will leave us all satisfied and eager for more.
