Dune: Prophecy and the 6 best (and 2 worst) shows streaming on Max right now

As a hardcore gamer and TV enthusiast with decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that Max has truly outdone itself with its diverse and captivating content library. From the epic saga of “Dune: Prophecy” to the royal drama of “House of the Dragon,” there’s something for everyone on this streaming platform.

Max is renowned for its exceptional collection of movies, being the streaming destination for some of the most significant cinematic productions. Yet, it’s not just about the films – don’t overlook Max’s TV content! Ranging from “Dune: Prophecy” to “House of the Dragon”, there’s a wide variety catering to diverse tastes on this platform.

If you haven’t subscribed to Max yet, you’re overlooking a wealth of top-notch series. These stories are captivating, witty, and boast an impressive ensemble of talented actors. I could rave about it for hours, but no streaming service is flawless. Max is one of my preferred choices, but even it has its imperfections. Most of the content on Max is excellent, but we’ve also pointed out shows that we wouldn’t recommend in our list below.

5 must-watch shows on Max

In no particular order, these are the best shows to stream on Max:

  • Dune: Prophecy
  • Succession
  • The Last of Us
  • House of the Dragon
  • The Sopranos
  • Euphoria

Every show featured in this lineup has shattered previous records and consistently generates buzz on social media when a fresh episode is released. Even if you don’t follow these shows, chances are you’ve heard about them. The latest addition to the Max’s top-tier programming is “Dune: Prophecy.” If you’re a fan of the Dune universe, you’ll surely appreciate the new series, which boasts an impressive cast including Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, and others.

On November 17th, the first episode of Dune: Prophecy was released. New episodes will follow weekly, with a total of six installments in the series. This prequel story unfolds 10,000 years prior to Paul Atreides’ rise and centers around two Harkonnen sisters as they strive to secure the future of humanity.

2 shows to skip on Max

These aren’t ranked, but these are the shows on Max that we think you might want to consider passing over. You’re in control, but we recommend giving these a miss.

  • The Idol
  • Velma

Velma has twice made it into my “Worst shows of the year” list. I don’t know how it even got a second season renewal, but HBO came to its senses and canceled Velma after two painful seasons. Yinkies! But the worst of the worst on Max? That has to be The Idol.

Every time I ponder over “The Idol” on Max, I find myself chuckling uncontrollably. It’s not because it evokes pleasant memories, quite the contrary. The show is so poorly executed that it’s comical. And to make matters worse, Sam Levinson boasted to the world that this would be the best, most significant series of the year. Well, “The Idol” certainly lives up to its name – a grand mess! The production features Lily-Rose Depp and Abel Tesfaye (the Weeknd) in a narrative where Jocelyn (Depp), a fallen pop star seeking redemption and her former glory, clashes with Tedros (Tesfaye), the leader of a modern cult. If you have an affinity for disasters and squandering your leisure time, then by all means, give “The Idol” a watch!
