Enthusiasts of the Dune series can look forward to the news that the production of the third installment is about to start imminently.
As reported by Deadline, it’s expected that filming for Dune 3 will commence in July. This aligns with earlier speculations suggesting that the production intended to kick off during the summer months.
It was officially announced last July that the movie “Dune 3” is set to be released on December 18, 2026. Fingers crossed, it looks like the production is moving forward and we can expect the release to go ahead as scheduled.
Dune 3 will see Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya and Florence Pugh all returning to the franchise.
In the upcoming third installment, it’s anticipated that Princess Irulan, as portrayed by Pugh, will assume a more significant part. Previously, director Denis Villeneuve likened her significance to that of Zendaya’s character, Chani.

Indeed, if a Dune Messiah sequel materializes as intended, Irulan is expected to be a significant figure throughout the entire series. I’m incorporating some of the same techniques used with Zendaya from the initial film.
In Dune, I initially present Chani, and later on, she assumes a significant role in Part Two. Similarly, Florence is introduced for the first time in Part Two; should there be a Dune Messiah sequel, she too would become a prominent figure.
Another unexpected return we might see is Jason Momoa, who played Duncan Idaho in the initial film but was absent from the sequel; however, it appears he’ll reappear in the third installment.
In the third installment of “Dune,” which is based on Frank Herbert’s 1969 novel “Dune Messiah,” Jason Momoa’s character, Idaho, will undergo a transformation. He will be replicated and revived as a genetically engineered being, referred to as a ghola.
It’s possible that the star-studded lineup for Dune 3 might expand with a well-known actor, as reports from April suggest Robert Pattinson was given a role offer, but no final casting decision has been made public yet.
