It’s uncertain if Jim Carrey will reprise his role in Dumb and Dumber 3, as he announced his retirement from acting back in 2022. However, since then, he has taken on the role in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, suggesting that he might be open to returning for another franchise where he holds a strong affection.

The Farrelly brothers’ statement implies that Carrey proposed the name “Gum and Gummier,” indicating a conversation about the idea. Additionally, Daniels shared with Newsweek that Carrey expressed a desire to reprise their roles when they reach 90 years old. Whether or not this was a genuine wish remains to be seen.

But here’s something exciting: Jim Carrey’s idea of bringing back Harry and Lloyd as middle-aged fellows seems like a brilliant move, brimming with comedic possibilities. Age doesn’t diminish their charm, you know! Since the first two movies had them embarking on a wild cross-country adventure, it’s safe to assume that this sequel might continue in the same vein, while also exploring how their friendship faces trials due to romantic entanglements.

In the ending credits of “Dumb and Dumber To”, there’s a scene that offers a sneak peek into potential events for the third movie. The scene shows Harry and Lloyd carelessly throwing their milkshakes out of the car, which accidentally hits a truck driven by their old nemesis, Sea Bass (played again by Cam Neely from the original film). In response to this incident, Sea Bass chases after them angrily, and just before the screen fades, it reveals a title card indicating that “Dumb and Dumber Again” might be released in 2034.

The humor in this scene feels more like a one-off joke rather than a setup for a sequel, since it’s been too long for the story to continue from that exact point. Yet, hinting at a 2034 release could be strategic, as it coincides with the 40th anniversary of “Dumb and Dumber” and the 20th anniversary of “Dumb and Dumber To”.
