DRX MaKo at Champions 2025: “I want to have more fun matches with the team in the future”

DRX won against TL and will now compete against NRG at Champions 2025. Player MaKo shared his thoughts on how this tournament feels different compared to his past international competitions.

DRX kicked off Champions 2025 with a win against Team Liquid in their group. They’ll now face NRG in the Upper Bracket, playing for a chance to advance to the Playoffs. After the match, the team discussed how they played, the VALORANT Champions Points system, and other topics.

DRX MaKo international experience

DRX’s Kim “MaKo” Myeong-kwan is a VALORANT veteran, having qualified for every Champions tournament since the first one in 2021. This year, he pointed out that his team qualified as a fourth seed, which is a first for him, and he’s now focusing on enjoying the experience more than just winning. He expressed his hope for more enjoyable matches with his team going forward, and believes that will be the focus for them in Paris.

MaKo shared that his primary goal is to help the team reach the quarterfinals, and he’s curious if his teammates feel the same. He also pointed out an interesting streak: he’s never lost a first match at a Champions tournament, though he isn’t sure why. He simply enjoys the winning feeling and doesn’t have any secret strategies.

Cho “Flashback” Min-hyuk thinks DRX is playing well, which has him looking forward to Champions 2025. He also considers NRG a strong opponent but anticipates an enjoyable match between the two teams.

Stage 2 performance and Champions Points impact

DRX head coach Termi explained how his team qualified for the tournament through Champions Points. He admitted he didn’t watch the match between Talon and RRQ, but emphasized how much he wanted to reach Champions. He clarified that Champions Points represent a team’s performance over a whole year, and while RRQ’s last-minute win helped secure DRX’s place, it was the consistent performance reflected in their Champions Points that ultimately got them there.

Regarding DRX’s performance in the VCT Pacific Stage 2 Playoffs, termi explained that their main focus is the upcoming Champions tournament. Because they had already qualified, the team prioritized spending time preparing for Champions. He shared that practice results have been encouraging, and they’re confident about their chances in the competition.

After a tough Stage 2, DRX coach termi decided to try a different strategy by using two duelists – Hyunmin and Flashback. He believed they had the potential to be very successful with this setup, saying both players were capable of dealing a lot of damage and that DRX could utilize the composition better than other teams. Termi explained the change was necessary after their performance in the Stage 2 Playoffs and described the duo as “extremely destructive,” confident they had the skills to make it work.
