Drew Dober posts first statement following loss to Jean Silva
As a huge fan of Drew Dober‘s grit and determination, I was completely captivated by his fight against Jean Silva at UFC Denver. Dober, the hometown hero, put on an incredible show in front of his Denver crowd after a decade-long absence. Despite facing a formidable opponent in Silva, who had just fought two weeks prior, Dober gave it his all and left it all in the octagon.
On Saturday at UFC Denver, I found myself in the thick of an almost uninterrupted three-round battle between Drew Dober and Jean Silva. The tension was palpable as Dober, a Denver native, made his long-awaited homecoming after a decade-long absence from fighting in front of his loyal fans. His opponent, Silva, had only recently stepped into the octagon in a lower weight class.
After the recent fight, Dober expressed his thoughts on social media about the defeat and shared some news regarding his upcoming plans. On his social media platform, he posted a picture of his injured eye being stitched up, accompanied by the caption: “It was an privilege to display my courage and resilience in the ring. Denver and the UFC, thank you for granting me these experiences. Failure holds no shame for me; it’s merely an opportunity to evolve into a more complete person.”
It’s a privilege to have the chance to display my passion and resilience in that arena. I appreciate Denver and the UFC for providing me with these valuable experiences. There’s no disgrace in falling short. Instead, it presents an opportunity for growth and self-improvement.

Drew Dober vs. Jean Silva was a FOTY candidate
Following Silva’s impressive victory over Dober, his stock soared significantly. This surge was attributed to several factors: the swiftness of the turnaround between fights, the unexpected nature of the match-up, the high altitude, and above all, his extraordinary performance. UFC analyst and trainer Din Thomas expressed admiration for Silva’s skills post-fight and proposed a potential bout against Ilia Topuria as the next challenge.
Thomas expressed during the broadcast, “Jean Silva is quite something; he’s incredibly tough.” I was seated next to Mick Maynard, the matchmaker, and found myself saying, “If Silva can make the weight class of 145, let’s go ahead and pit him against Ilia Topuria right now. He certainly fits the bill. His striking skills are impressive.”
Silva has won all 11 of his last bouts, including three in the UFC. At UFC 303, he failed to make weight but went on to win against Charles Jourdain through a second-round uppercut KO. Dober currently endures a two-fight losing streak, yet remains a beloved figure and veteran of the UFC with over 40 MMA contests behind him.
