Summary

  • Drake, in his lawsuit against UMG, is demanding Kendrick Lamar’s contract and sensitive information
  • He alleges UMG supported defamatory claims in “Not Like Us” to boost profits
  • Drake also seeks details on Lamar’s alleged crimes and catalog value from the label

Drake’s ongoing court case with Universal Music Group (UMG) involves the Kendrick Lamar diss track “Not Like Us”. Now, he’s seeking confidential details about Kendrick Lamar, including his contract terms, accusations related to criminal activities, and other pertinent information.

According to a report in The Hollywood Reporter, Drizzy is trying to convince the court to compel both the record label, as well as its chairman and CEO, Lucian Grainge, to release the contract of Dot. He’s also seeking disclosure of any documents or communications from Grainge concerning “allegations of domestic violence and other criminal accusations” directed towards the pgLang leader.

Previously, a version of UMG’s agreement with Lamar was shared to Drake. Unfortunately, the redactions made it nearly impossible to understand or interpret. Furthermore, Drake, as the head of OVO, is also seeking financial details from Interscope related to Dot’s catalog and its worth over the past five-and-a-half years.

According to Drake’s assertion, these documents suggest that UMG may have endorsed harmful comments about him in the song “Not Like Us,” with the intent of boosting their earnings. Additionally, he believes that Grainge played a significant part in how UMG marketed and promoted “Not Like Us,” as he is alleged to have encouraged rivalry among record labels in this process.

Under Universal Music Group, Kendrick Lamar and Drake have different record labels. Specifically, Kendrick Lamar is signed to Interscope Records, whereas Drake is under Republic Records.
