Drake Is Now Allowed To Request Kendrick Lamar’s Contract Amongst Other Documents in “Not Like Us” Lawsuit

In his defamation case against Universal Music Group, Drake has experienced advancements. It’s been reported that he can now ask for Kendrick Lamar’s contract and other related documents in the “Not Like Us” lawsuit. This development follows a judge declining Universal’s plea to halt the discovery process, instead permitting Drake to continue with his pursuit of obtaining further contract details from the label.

Earlier today, Judge Jeanette Vargas sided with Drake’s legal team during a pre-trial conference, allowing them to proceed with depositions of UMG executives and document requests. Last month, UMG had requested the judge to halt all discovery in the case, encompassing demands for “all contracts” between UMG and Kendrick Lamar, along with John Janick’s compensation, incentives, and other details as Interscope CEO, among other executive information.

In a statement to Variety, Drake’s lead attorney Michael Gottlieb stated, “Now it’s time for UMG to reveal what they were so anxious to conceal.” Not long ago, UMG submitted a letter to halt discovery, arguing that Drake’s initial request for information caused an excessive burden and demanded the costly collection and review of extensive hard-copy and digital data sets, contracts, and agreements, as well as communications. UMG has yet to respond to the latest development in the case, which permits Drake’s team to ask for contract details related to Kendrick Lamar.
