Square Enix has confirmed to players that “Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate” is still being worked on, having been first unveiled among several “Dragon Quest” games back in 2021. Since then, there’s been little news about the upcoming mainline installment.
In simpler terms, Yuji Horii, the creator of the popular RPG series, mentioned during a live broadcast on his radio program that the upcoming installment of the game is still being developed diligently by Square Enix. He hinted at providing more details as we get closer to its release date. (This information was reported by Automaton through VGC.)
After the unveiling, Horii mentioned that Dragon Quest XII will tackle “grim, adult themes,” which might be a slight shift for the series, but dark elements have been present in other Dragon Quest installments. Currently available is the Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, and the Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake is due soon.
As for when we’ll hear more about Dragon Quest XII? It may be some time. Stay tuned and that.
