Dragon Ball Legends Beginners Guide, Tips and Tricks
As a seasoned Dragon Ball fan and avid mobile gamer, I can confidently say that this guide is a must-read for any beginner embarking on their journey in Dragon Ball Legends! Having spent countless hours in the game, I’ve learned a thing or two about how to make the most of your time and resources.
In this article, we’ll explore some helpful tips for newcomers to the mobile game titled “Dragon Ball Legolds,” which falls under the “Gacha” genre (similar to a slot machine) and offers an engaging narrative experience. The game shares similarities with titles like “Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi,” “FighterZ,” and “Xenoverse.” While player-versus-player (PvP) combat is the main focus, you can still enjoy the game solely on the player-versus-environment (PvE) side, much like in “DBZ: Dokkan Battle.” Today, we’ll delve into some strategies to help beginners navigate Dragon Ball Legends.
In Dragon Ball Legends, you’ll encounter extra features that might bring back memories of games like Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi, FighterZ, and Xenoverse. To aid you on your adventure, we offer helpful tips, and you can even redeem codes for bonuses and consult our tier list to select the top fighters for your journey.
Your First Fight
The lesson provides a straightforward overview of the main tasks you’ll be performing throughout most of the game.
Here’s a summary
- Swiping up moves your character forward.
- Swiping down moves your character backward.
- If you’re far away, you can throw Ki Blasts by tapping the screen; If you’re close to the enemy, however, the fighter will start doing light attacks.
In this game, when you press and hold the screen, your fighter will build up energy known as “Energy Meter” or simply “Meter”. This energy is crucial for using your “Ability Cards”, which are located at the bottom during a fight. Each card has its unique function, and they all require varying amounts of energy to activate. Mastering the art of combining light attacks with Ability Cards forms the basis of the skills required to excel in Player versus Player (PvP) combat.
Moving your screen left or right will trigger a “Vanishing Action”. Each time you use the Vanishing Action, it decreases your “Vanish Meter”. Unfortunately, this meter doesn’t refill while you are engaged in combat or charging Ki, so use it wisely! The Vanishing Action serves as a “defensive maneuver”, which is very handy for dodging attacks, card plays, energy blasts, and even a “Rising Rush”.
- When performing Art Cards, there’s a small chance a Dragon Ball will appear at the top right corner of it. If you gather 7 Dragon Balls, you can perform a Rising Rush, which is an extremely powerful attack that can earn you victory if you do it correctly.
- Tapping your character’s portrait activates their Main attack, which differs from character to character.
Understanding type advantage/disadvantage
In the game, there are seven distinct character categories. Each character belongs to just one category, which comes with its unique advantages and disadvantages. Every character also has a specific element associated with them, represented by colors such as Red, Yellow, Purple, Green, and Blue. Notably, each primary color element is stronger against one element but weaker against another.
- BLUE is strong to RED and weak to GREEN
- RED is strong to YELLOW and weak to BLUE
- YELLOW is strong to PURPLE and weak to RED
- PURPLE is strong to GREEN and weak to YELLOW
- GREEN is strong to BLUE and weak to PURPLE
Currently, there are two additional components in play. These components are exclusively utilized by adversaries within Story Mode, and they are referred to as Shallot. The two jokers or variables are known as the Special Elements, specifically Dark and Light.
- DARK is strong to all elements but weak to LIGHT
- LIGHT is strong to DARK and neutral to all elements.
Rarities, Limit-break, Z-Powers, and Stats
As of now, there are three rarities in the game
- HE or Hero is the more common, with a 73% pull rate on normal banners.
- EX or Extreme is uncommon, with a 20% pull rate on normal banners.
- SP or Sparking is the rarest and strongest, with a 7% pull rate on normal banners.
Characters in this game are primarily acquired through a process called summoning. However, there are alternative ways to get characters, including leveling up, completing missions, or participating in events. Each character has the potential to reach up to 7 stars. These star levels can be achieved by earning ‘Z-Powers’. When you successfully summon and obtain a HE (High End) character, it rewards you with 100 Z-powers, while an EX (Extreme) character grants 250 Z-powers, and an SP (Super Premium) character provides 600 Z-powers.
Each star enhances your character’s strength, with ‘0’ being the minimum and ‘7’ the maximum. As you advance to a higher star level, your Z-Powers will revert back to zero, and it will cost more to enhance your character compared to the previous level. Occasionally, you might receive free Z-Powers from unique events or missions, so keep an eye out!
Souls, Rising Souls, Super Souls, and how to get them
There are five distinct categories, and within this framework, you’ll find five unique kinds of souls to gather. Each soul type aligns with its specific category, and they come in varying sizes.
A quick explanation of how it works is; Think about a classic RPG Skills tree. You can spend a form of currency (souls) in a way to make your character stronger by improving Health, Attack, etc. Rising souls are used to unlock ‘boost panels’ and the Super Souls are used to level up the ‘skill tree’.
To earn Souls, Rising Souls, and Super Souls, you simply have to play the story mode or play PvP matches to earn currency to exchange for souls. (Between you and me, farming the Story Mode seems like the more viable option!) You can get both Rising Souls and Super Souls starting from Book 4 Story mode. There are also specific characters that have ‘Zenkai’ awakenings; these would use a soul type called ‘Zenkai Souls’, obtained in the hyperdimensional co-op game mode.
