As 2025 comes to a close, a major event is planned to revive the franchise. It’s returning to American television just before a significant announcement is made in January 2026.
Cartoon Network has announced its TV schedule for the rest of 2025, including what will air on Adult Swim in the early morning. According to Swimpedia, will be shown on Adult Swim for an hour each weekday morning. On Monday, December 29, 2025, two episodes of DBZ: Kai will begin airing at 5 a.m. Eastern Time.
DBZ Officially Returns to Cartoon Network This December
Cartoon Network is bringing back Dragon Ball with the first episode of DBZ Kai. This marks the return of Goku and his friends, as well as the debut of Goku’s son, Gohan. Viewers will also learn a surprising truth about Goku’s past when his older brother, the villainous alien Raditz, appears.
It’s unclear exactly how many episodes of Dragon Ball Z Kai Cartoon Network has. If this new showing uses the same package of episodes they previously bought, it will likely stop around the time Goku becomes a Super Saiyan during the Frieza Saga. However, because the series consistently gets good ratings, Cartoon Network might get more DBZ Kai episodes later for future airings.
While Dragon Ball is strongly associated with Cartoon Network’s Toonami programming, it’s also been shown on other channels. Notably, in 2005, Cartoon Network broadcast Funimation’s “Ultimate Uncut” version of DBZ during its prime viewing hours. This version brought back the violence that was present in the original Japanese anime, but it replaced the Japanese music with a new American soundtrack. Additionally, Dragon Ball appeared on Nicktoons and CW4Kids’ Toonzai block in 2010.
Whether planned or a coincidence, the return of Dragon Ball to Cartoon Network happens around a big event scheduled for January 25, 2026, in Japan. During this event, Masako Nozawa, the voice of Goku, and Akio Iyoku, Executive Producer of Dragon Ball, will share news about what’s coming next for the franchise, including the anime, video games, trading cards, and other Dragon Ball products.
A rumor is spreading online about a potential new announcement, likely connected to Dragon Ball Super. This speculation increased when a host unintentionally revealed details about a new movie during a live broadcast of his podcast, KosoKoso.
You can also watch Dragon Ball Z Kai, along with other Dragon Ball anime like Dragon Ball Daima and Dragon Ball Super, on Crunchyroll. If you prefer reading, the Dragon Ball Super manga is available on the Viz Media and Manga Plus apps.
Now that Goku has defeated Buu, he’s finding life on Earth a little dull. While his wife, Chi-chi, wishes he’d find work, all he really wants to do is continue training and challenge powerful opponents.
Across the universe, the powerful Beerus, God of Destruction, is journeying between planets with his attendant Whis, looking for delicious food and fun things to do. After destroying a few planets, Beerus remembers a powerful warrior from a dream – someone called the ‘Super Saiyan God,’ or a similar title. Intrigued, Beerus decides to visit Earth and find this mysterious fighter, which could give Goku a new challenge.
