While Gohan’s newest form, Gohan Beast, showcased in Super, is definitely his most powerful transformation yet, many fans believe it isn’t his most significant one.
To celebrate International Gohan Day on May 8th, the official Dragon Ball social media accounts held a poll asking fans worldwide to pick their favorite Gohan form. The results, revealed on July 19th, probably won’t surprise longtime fans.
The official Dragon Ball X (formerly Twitter) account shared the complete poll results, which are as follows:
- The Android Cell Arc – 54%
- The Majin Buu Arc – 30%
- The Saiyan Arc – 10%
- The Frieza Arc – 6%
Although Gohan is incredibly strong as an adult, a recent poll confirms that many fans consider his best period in Dragon Ball to be his childhood, specifically when he first transformed into a Super Saiyan 2 during the Cell Saga.
Gohan’s Super Saiyan 2 Transformation Has Never Been Surpassed After 33 Years
I noticed a new official wallpaper for smartphones featuring Gohan just dropped on the official Dragon Ball X page! It’s a free download, and the artwork is really cool – it’s a throwback to that amazing moment when Gohan transformed and defeated Perfect Cell. It’s a great way to remember that iconic victory.
This wallpaper features a key image originally created by Akira Toriyama in 1994 for promotional materials and later included in the 2013 Dragon Ball Super Art Book. The background shows various parts of the same scene, depicting Gohan powering up his one-handed Kamehameha – the attack that ultimately defeats Cell.
Gohan first achieved the Super Saiyan 2 transformation in chapter 408 of the manga Dragon Ball, titled “Son Gohan Explodes!!” This issue of Weekly Shonen Jump was published on February 2, 1993. The moment had been foreshadowed ever since Gohan unexpectedly revealed his immense power when fighting Raditz.
Gohan’s Beast form, first seen in the fight against Cell Max, was essentially Dragon Ball Super‘s way of bringing back the popularity Gohan had early in the series – a popularity that fans still remember fondly after more than 33 years.
Many fans believe Gohan has already reached the height of his power, but the upcoming chapters in the Dragon Ball Super manga suggest he’s actually going to become even stronger. Although there’s no confirmed release date yet, the artist Toyotarou has promised the manga will continue after its current break, meaning the story isn’t over.
Gohan has been increasingly important in the latest Dragon Ball manga storylines, like the one featuring Moro that’s coming soon to animation. This could lead to fans discovering a brand-new, preferred version of Gohan’s power.
