Dragon Age Remaster Trilogy Highly Unlikely As Almost No One at BioWare Knows How its Old Eclipse Engine Works
As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I’ve witnessed the evolution of many game series, some gracefully moving forward and others fading into oblivion. The Dragon Age franchise has been a staple in my RPG diet for quite some time now, and the release of The Veilguard has only reaffirmed my love for this world.
With Dragon Age: Veilguard seeing a successful debut, some newcomers to the series have been pondering if a remastered trilogy like the Mass Effect Legendary Edition could be in the works. However, it’s unlikely, given that only a few developers at BioWare are still familiar with their old Eclipse Engine.
John Epler, Creative Director at BioWare, mentioned to Rolling Stone (as reported by PC Gamer) that he’s likely one of only around 20 people still with the company who has experience with Eclipse. He added that while it won’t be as straightforward as creating Mass Effect, they hold a soft spot for the original games. Essentially, he suggested that although it might not be likely, they haven’t ruled out anything completely.
The game “Dragon Age: Inquisition” was the first in the series to utilize EA and DICE’s Frostbite Engine, whereas the Mass Effect games opted for the Unreal Engine, which is renowned for its adaptability. It’s not very likely that we will see “Dragon Age: Origins,” including its expansion “Awakening,” along with “Dragon Age II” and “Dragon Age: Inquisition” bundled together, but as Epler notes, one should never rule out the possibility of such a collection.
The video game Dragon Age: Veilguard is now playable on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and personal computers. However, it’s been hinted that there probably won’t be any additional downloadable content for this specific game as BioWare is shifting their attention towards the next installment of Mass Effect.
