Drag Race’s Michelle Visage joins new queer BBC drama

As a long-time fan of RuPaul’s Drag Race and a connoisseur of British television, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the new queer BBC drama, Smoggie Queens! The cast is absolutely stacked with talent, from Michelle Visage to Charlotte Riley, and everything in between. It’s a dream come true to see such a diverse and talented group coming together for this project.

RuPaul’s Drag Race judge Michelle Visage has joined the cast of a new queer BBC drama.

The TV host is part of the ensemble for “Smoggie Queens,” joining Charlotte Riley from “Peaky Blinders,” Bill Fellows known from “Corrie” and “Ted Lasso,” Steph McGovern of “Packed Lunch,” and comedian Phil Dunning, who additionally wrote the script.

The comedy film titled “Smoggie Queens” was recently filmed in Middlesbrough, having been characterized as a full-fledged humor production.

The storyline of “Smoggie Queens,” penned by Middlesbrough-born author Phil Dunning, revolves around characters Dickie (played by Dunning himself), Mam (portrayed by Mark Benton), Lucinda (Alexandra Mardell), Sal (Patsy Lowe), and Stewart (Elijah Young). These individuals reside in a small, often overlooked area of the United Kingdom. Their journey encompasses explorations of love, life, and their deep-rooted affection for their hometown, as they navigate its challenges together.

As a devoted spectator, I’m thrilled to share that this tale unfolds from two underdog perspectives. Brace yourself for some intense and heartfelt battles that might just leave your hairdo in disarray!

In a statement, Visage expressed her delight about being part of the project and offered a glimpse into her character: “Working on Smoggie Queens was a pure pleasure, and I can’t wait for everyone to get acquainted with Elaine, an organized office assistant that I thoroughly enjoyed portraying. Prepare yourselves to meet her!

“I found the script outstanding, the costumes were fantastic, and it was a delight to mingle with Middlesbrough’s royalty for a day! Now, I officially belong to the Smoggies!

Reflecting on my time here, I must say that returning to Teesside to collaborate with Phil and the team on such an extraordinary project has been nothing short of amazing!

I’m not certain if I’ve encountered a funnier and more fabulous group for a show. The production process was filled with unforgettable laughter, and I eagerly anticipate watching the final product. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been a part of this wonderful project.

In a humble and grateful manner, Dunning expressed his feeling of extraordinarily fortunate luck for having such immensely talented actors join the cast of “Smoggie Queens“. They were a joy to collaborate with, and he is left in admiration and reverence for each and every one of them.

The cast is rounded out by Peter McPherson, Neil Grainger, Michael Mather, and Lauryn Redding.
