A contestant from the show RuPaul’s Drag Race has moved out of the United States due to increasingly strict immigration policies under President Trump.
Xunami Muse, a contestant from season 16 of the popular competition show, shared on Instagram that she has moved back to Panama. She explained that dealing with life in the United States had become challenging and complex.
She announced to her followers that she’s moved to Panama and left the United States. Her reason? She wants to travel the world!
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve always admired those who share their stories, and on a recent season of Drag Race, contestant Xunami bravely opened up about a really personal experience. She talked about what it’s like living in the U.S. with DACA – that’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, a program started back in 2012. It basically offers protection from deportation for people who were brought to the country as kids, and it was so powerful to see her shed light on this important issue.
She explained on the show that they aren’t citizens, but are in a sort of legal holding pattern. They’re allowed to stay because they were already living in the country, but they don’t have all the same rights as citizens.
Following Xunami’s widely shared announcement, one online commenter expressed their frustration, writing, ‘It’s heartbreaking to see DACA recipients forced to leave. This country should treat immigrants with more respect, and Xunami deserved a better outcome.’

Xunami personally replied to some fans in Spanish, sharing that she doesn’t know if she’ll ever be able to come back.
When a fan questioned whether she would be allowed back into the US if she left, she admitted she wasn’t sure.
Xunami didn’t specifically mention the Trump administration’s immigration policies, but she did announce she’s going on a European tour with other queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race next month.
She’s scheduled to perform in Australia later this year, which will be her first big international tour since moving away from the United States.
For people with DACA, like Xunami, leaving the United States requires special permission called Advance Parole. This process has become more complicated and uncertain due to recent and ongoing policy changes.
This announcement follows the administration’s steps to increase restrictions on the approximately 525,000 young immigrants often referred to as ‘Dreamers’.
Recently, government agencies have tried to take away healthcare and financial assistance from people with DACA, and some DACA recipients have even been detained by immigration officials, despite being legally protected from deportation.
According to a statement from the Department of Homeland Security, simply having DACA status doesn’t prevent someone from being deported. DHS assistant press secretary Tricia McLaughlin clarified that the program doesn’t grant any legal residency in the United States.

McLaughlin further urged recipients to ‘self-deport’ and ‘return to the U.S. the right legal way.’
Okay, so watching Xunami on Drag Race absolutely *wrecked* me, but in the best way. She talked about this policy from when Obama was president, and it was so moving! Apparently, it’s the reason she was even *able* to come to the U.S. and build her life and career. Seriously, it was everything. Knowing that policy gave her a chance? I’m obsessed!
She explained that DACA allows her to work and appear on Drag Race legally, stating, ‘We wouldn’t be here without it.’ She then expressed her gratitude to Barack Obama for creating the program.
Her choice to leave underscores the increasing anxiety among DACA recipients, with many now worried they could be deported.
Xunami’s decision follows Julianne Moore’s announcement in June that she and her husband, Bart Freundlich, are planning to move to the UK permanently.
She’s not the only one; more and more Hollywood actors are choosing to live and work abroad. Some have even said that the current political environment in the United States, particularly under Donald Trump, influenced their decision to leave.
In March, Courtney Love shared that she’s applying for British citizenship, explaining that the possibility of Donald Trump being re-elected president is ‘frightening’ to her.
Courtney Love, who was married to Kurt Cobain of Nirvana until he passed away in 1994, has said she’s finally ready to live in London permanently. She’s been increasingly frustrated with the U.S. government over the years.

Speaking at the Royal Geographical Society, she expressed her happiness to be there and how much she loves living in Britain. She announced she will become a British citizen in six months, excitedly sharing that she’s in the process of applying and plans to stay for good.
Love criticized Trump and his associates, describing the scene at Mar-a-Lago as excessively ostentatious – like they’re flaunting extreme wealth with expensive items. He expressed concern, comparing the situation to something dangerously toxic.
The musician, age 60, has been living in London since 2019. She shares a daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, with Kurt Cobain.
I’m hearing that Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are embracing a new life overseas. They’ve listed their beautiful California home for sale and have reportedly moved to the UK, seemingly ready to enjoy a quieter retirement. Sources close to the couple suggest this move is partly due to a feeling of not being fully accepted in the U.S., unfortunately linked to their relationship. It’s a sad reminder that, despite progress, acceptance isn’t always a given, and everyone deserves to feel safe and welcome wherever they choose to live.
Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling are continuing to live abroad after a long stay in the UK. At the same time, Minnie Driver has moved back to London after living in Los Angeles for almost three decades.
As someone who keeps an eye on where people are choosing to build their lives, I’ve heard through the grapevine that America Ferrera, you might remember her from ‘Ugly Betty,’ has been checking out schools in West London. It’s no secret she’s talked about wanting to move out of the U.S. – she actually mentioned it around the time of the last election – and it seems like she might be making that dream a reality!
