Dplus vs Gen.G at LCK Cup 2025: To face the beasts of LoL Korea

A single squad remains with an opportunity to secure a spot at the League of Legends First Strike 2025 tournament, yet their upcoming rivals present a formidable hurdle.

In the final rounds of the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) Cup 2025 tournament, Dplus KIA and Gen.G Esports are set to clash in a lower bracket match. The losing team will be knocked out of the competition. With such fierce competition within this region, merely reaching the top 3 is an impressive feat. However, for these two teams, victory is paramount. It’s the only pathway to qualify for First Stand 2025.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve found myself in a familiar situation – my team, Hanwha Life Esports, has faced defeats at the hands of the same formidable opponents in the LCK Cup 2025. First, it was Gen.G who knocked us out in Round 2, and then Dplus dealt us another blow in Round 3. But now, this lower final appearance presents a golden opportunity for revenge. We’re eagerly anticipating our rematch in the grand final, ready to prove ourselves and turn the tables on our opponents.

With Hanwha Life knocking out T1, champions of League of Legends (LoL) World Championships in 2024, DK vs GEN winners now confront a larger hurdle. Who will meet the formidable Korean teams in the final match of the LCK Cup 2025?

The first match in quite a while

Despite the excitement surrounding the LCK Cup 2025 finals and the First Stand 2025 qualification, this League of Legends match between Gen.G Esports and Dplus KIA is particularly captivating. It’s been some time since we last saw these teams face off against each other.

2025’s LCK Cup kicks off as the season’s inaugural event. Teams Gen.G and Dplus were strategically positioned in a single group, ensuring their matches would only be against squads from the opposite group due to mutual victories. As a result, their group ended up at the top, granting both teams immediate passage to Round 2 of the Playoffs.

It’s likely that Gen.G Esports and Dplus KIA would prefer to forget their matches against HLE, as they were grueling five-game series, ultimately resulting in losses for both teams.

Regarding their previous encounters, General G holds a clear advantage over Dplus. In fact, Dplus has been defeated by this same team not once but twice during the LCK Summer 2024 – both in the Group stage and in the Playoffs. The outcome was just as unfavorable for Dplus during the LCK Spring 2024.

Both rosters have some changes in the newest season as well.

  • Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk and Joo “Duro” Min-kyu joined Gen.G instead of Kim “Peyz” Su-hwan and Son “Lehends” Si-woo.
  • Jeon “Siwoo” Si-woo and Cho “BeryL” Geon-hee joined Dplus instead of Hwang “Kingen” Seong-hoon and Jeong “Moham” Jae-hu.

It’s interesting to see how these transfers can pay off for both teams.

As a dedicated gamer, I’m excitedly counting down to the inaugural League of Legends (LoL) international event in 2025, known as First Stand. Only five teams hailing from major regions will be participating in this tournament, and the action-packed matches run from March 10th all the way through March 16th. Can’t wait to see who takes the crown!
