Actor Allen Leech, best known for his role in Downton Abbey, will soon appear on your TV screens as part of the upcoming thriller series titled The Vanishings, which premieres on Channel 5 next month.
Drawing inspiration from authentic incidents in ’90s Ireland, I find myself immersed in a captivating six-part drama where I embody my detective persona, partnering with the talented India Mullen, known for her role in “Normal People,” as we delve into a baffling string of disappearances together.
The pair won’t just face off against police corruption, they’ll also encounter a murderer who holds a significant connection to one of our main characters.

Following the release of an article on her mother’s homicide, investigative journalist Lisa Wallace receives a chilling, taunting letter from the perpetrator. Accompanying the message are photographs of the crime scene and a fresh victim, hinting at more violence to come.
In the near future, word arrives about Amy Reynolds, a lady who has mysteriously vanished. Lisa and Detective David Burkely navigate bureaucratic hurdles within the Garda force as additional young women disappear.
Simultaneously, the murderer subjects Lisa to mental torment, forcing her to select his victims and even menacing her directly. This ordeal places both Lisa and David in a precarious position, drawing them dangerously close to the rotten heart of the Garda’s corrupt system.
To protect themselves, some influential police officers are coercing David by revealing his hidden past, which could potentially bring ruin upon them both as they near confrontation with the individual responsible for the long-ago murder of Lisa’s mother, the one they intend to bring to justice.

It’s worth noting that this series was previously known by another name – The Vanishing Triangle. In 2023, it made its debut on a US streaming service, and it was broadcasted on Virgin Media One in Ireland and the Acorn TV platform in the UK during the previous year.
Apart from “The Castaways” with Sheridan Smith on Paramount+, another previously aired show isn’t the only one Channel 5 has revived. This broadcaster recently brought it back onto our screens, but it received less than favorable criticisms.
The Vanishings makes its Channel 5 premiere at 9pm on Thursday, February 6.
