Okay, so I just heard some cool news! Allen Leech, you know, the guy from *Downton Abbey*, is going to be in a new thriller called *Pedro Pan*. Apparently, it’s based on a true story from the 60s about this massive operation where they rescued a ton of kids. It’s pretty incredible – it was led by a socialite from Cuba, an English teacher, and an Irish priest, all working out of Miami. Sounds like a really intense movie!
As reported by *Deadline*, a large-scale operation rescued over 14,000 children from Cuba after the Cuban Revolution. These children were secretly brought to safety to protect them from being raised with communist beliefs under Fidel Castro’s government.
As a huge history buff, I’ve been reading about Operation Pedro Pan, and it’s just incredible. Basically, with backing from the US government and the Catholic Church, this operation helped thousands of Cuban kids start over in America. They were placed with family members or, if they didn’t have any here, with foster families. It’s a really moving story of resilience and new beginnings.

Richie Adams is directing a new historical thriller that’s expected to start filming in Mexico in early November. The cast includes Leech, Néstor Carbonell (from *Shōgun*), Danny Pino, Paz Vega, and Andy García (known for *Father of the Bride*), though their specific characters haven’t been revealed yet.
Carlos José Alvarez, a composer whose parents were forced into exile due to the operation, wrote the story and will also produce the project, working with Steve Shapiro, Adams Gavigan, and Liz and Ken Whitney.
Gavigan, who also helped write the screenplay, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to tell this story on film, praising the talented and genuine cast for bringing the characters to life with depth and honesty.
As a huge fan, I’m so excited about this project because it really focuses on the real lives and stories of the Cuban community. It’s amazing that they’re including Cuban actors – it feels so authentic! And I can’t wait for the world to finally see this incredible story.
According to Alvarez, the story of *Peter Pan* isn’t just about Cuba and America; it’s a widely relatable tale of bravery, giving up things for others, and the importance of family and freedom.
Allen Leech recently returned as Tom Branson in the third and last *Downton Abbey* film, *The Grand Finale*. The movie focuses on Lady Mary Crawley, who is dealing with a recent divorce and facing social isolation before a new romance blossoms with a man named Gus Sambrook.
Soon, Mary begins to doubt the financial advisor’s motives and questions whether he can be trusted.
