Downton Abbey: A New Era is on TV tonight
As a long-time Downton Abbey enthusiast who has eagerly awaited each new installment since its debut over a decade ago, I can confidently say that this festive season simply wouldn’t be complete without another visit to Highclere Castle and the Crawley family. The upcoming third film, Downton Abbey: A New Era, is a much-anticipated return to the roaring twenties, filled with familiar faces, newcomers, and a delightful dose of British charm that never fails to captivate me.
Looking forward to catching up on some old favorites from Downton Abbey during the holiday season, or perhaps seeking to brush up before the release of the third movie?
Since their debut on our screens in 2010, the Crawley family has won over many viewers’ hearts and homes, becoming a cherished part of daily life for six seasons and two full-length movies. Another film is set to be released next year.
Tonight at 9 pm, catch the newest Downton Abbey film, “Downton Abbey: A New Era,” on ITV. This second installment, released in 2022, continues the story as the Crawleys embark on a journey to the French Riviera to discover the secret behind the Dowager Countess’s newly acquired villa.
The movie also airs an hour later at 10pm on ITV+1 for those who’d prefer a later viewing.
Since the second “Downton Abbey” movie isn’t accessible for free streaming anywhere, it would be wise to catch its television broadcast tonight.
Nevertheless, those who wish to watch it at a later date can pay to rent it for £3.99 currently via Prime Video (also available via AppleTV+ for the slightly higher price of £7.99)
In Downton Abbey: A New Era, we welcomed newcomers like Dominic West, Laura Haddock, and Hugh Dancy to the series, as viewers stepped back into the grandeur of Highclere Castle amidst the vibrant 1920s era.
If you’d like to refresh your memory by watching the initial movie before diving into the second one again, you can stream it for free on ITVX, or access it on Netflix or Amazon Prime Video if you already have a subscription.
Currently, you can freely stream Seasons 1 through 6 of the classic “Downton Abbey” TV show on Netflix, provided that you have an active subscription.
On September 12, 2025, exactly the same day as its US premiere, you’ll be able to catch the third film installment of “Downton Abbey” in cinemas. The cast members reprising their roles for this new movie are Hugh Bonneville and Elizabeth McGovern playing Robert and Cora Crawley, Joanne Froggatt as Anna Bates, Michelle Dockery as Lady Mary Talbot, Jim Carter as Mr Carson, Phyllis Logan as Elsie Carson, and Dame Penelope Wilton as Lady Merton.
Additionally, Paul Giamatti reappears after some time as Lady Cora’s brother, joining a fresh set of actors which includes Joely Richardson, Alessandro Nivola, Simon Russell Beale, and Arty Froushan.
